Hi everyone – happy easter!
Owen has been eating great for the past few days but now his bum is a little red and he has bad breath – almost like garlic breath. He did have 5 fish sticks yesterday that small kind of garlicky so that might be why the breath (although it has lasted a while) but I’m wondering about the red bum. What does a “red ring” look like? Basically his bum is red around his anus, basically in a half moon shape on both sides. Is that the red ring? If so, I have no idea what it could be from – he’s eaten better but has been having the same stuff he always has. How about the breath? It’s just kind of garlicky and stale – could that be an issue too or would that just be random?
Sorry if these questions are nuts – I’m just trying to figure out if this is an issue or not.
Meanwhile, wish us luck. We’re taking the boy to the Red Sox game today – I don’t have very high hopes since church was squirmy for him, but we’ll do our best!

From the time she turned one, she always had what my husband used to call a “monkey’s bum” until we toilet trained her. Basically he meant that her anus was always red around it. I do know that some people say it can be related to MSPI, so I might watch it if it’s linked to some other behaviour, but for us it was always normal. Also she sometimes had bad breath around that age, so we started really brushing her teeth better with toothpaste, and then it stopped. Not sure if that’s what’s going on with Owen as well.
Have fun at the game!

Maybe it’s just the fish sticks and it will improve soon.

I know it is a classic allergy sign so I asked his ped. but she said it was diaper rash. I usually just put some Desitin or Dr. Smith’s ointment on it and it will usually get better almost overnight (but then comes back again!).
For the bad breath, it could be that this teeth need to be brushed more (we are so bad about that) but Seth always gets the sour breath when his reflux acts up.

They both have reflux and it goes away when the reflux meds are upped. My son has been drinking acidophilus milk for 1.5 years now and the other day, I didn’t have time to bring his “special” milk to daycare with him so his daycare provider said ‘by law’ she has to give them milk everyday. So she gave him normal milk and his breath was ROTTEN! when I picked him up that afternoon!! So, I’d make sure the meds are high enough, and/or try milk with pro-biotics (acidophilus).
Oh, and Logan has always had the red ring, and I practically have to put diaper rash ointment on it every day. It gets better and gets worse, but it never goes away completely.
