Not sure if posting in the right place but putting some feelers out for those of you who may recognize what’s wrong. I’ve had several previous posts around GERD and Allergies (MSPI) and looks like MSPI was playing a big role in my son’s problems. He has been eating better and doing better since completely eliminating that from his diet on Jan 1st this year. I also tried going for 3 weeks without him having any grains to see if that made any difference last month and it really didn’t. While he is eating better and seems to take in close to the recommended amount of calories per day, he is still not really growing.
From birth to six months his height was normal (around 20% percentile). Family is average height. His weight has also been on the low side, right at the bottom of charts or slightly off the charts. His weight gain is very predictable, about 1 pound per month no matter how good or poorly he eats. As a result since his weight gain is slow and steady, he is on the charts again for weight (around 10th percentile).
I’m very curious why around 6 months he seemed to stop growing in height and has dropped off the charts. He is 26.5 inches tall now 11 month hold. He wears clothes sizes 6-9 months.
Any thoughts guys on things we should be asking the dr about?
His was diagnosed with GERD, no obstructions found internally. He is on Prevacid twice a day which seems to help with the GERD. Thoughts on what may be causing short stature?
Everything else about his development appears on track.
The only thing I would be concerned about is if his stomach linking is being damaged, therefore he is unable to absorb nutrients properly to grow. We are experiencing this. We had a scope done, and it showed mild damage…. or has he been sick recently with gastritis, bad diarrhea etc….that can also damage his stomach…I would tell your pediatrician about your concerns and ask if you should be testing anything or looking for anything. It could also be that he is gonna be a smaller guy. Our LO is 17 months old…21lbs and 30″…he has been that since 11 months so I know how you feel. We are still going through testing..right now stool cultures to test for parasites, yeast etc.
