InactiveEmma is still on her refusing to eat phase. I have a very stubborn child. She has been on it for about a month now. Just to do a update, we did do a hidden diary trial and she failed. She had really bad diahrrea that cleared up as soon as we stopped it. The GI wanted us to start up again even slower this time. I am just getting concerned and want to ask those of you that has been through this crazy phase how long they normally last. I know they can go through it several times but I really don’t know how long is normal. She only wants to eat hard foods that have sugar, at least that is all we can get her to eat. She is taking more formula than anything. She is still having a texture issue, wanting to gag as soon as it hits her mouth. She isn’t losing weight but she is not gaining either. I don’t want to just assume that it will get better if this is lasting to long. Any suggestions on this would be appreciated! Thanks

InactiveI don’t know if this is typical or not, but we just went through about a 6 week period where Kaelyn hardly ate anything. Then she got the flu, ate nothing for 3 days, and then started eating like crazy when she recovered. After about a week, she slowed down again, and now she’s eating “normally” – if there is such a thing.

InactiveHailey goes through long stretches like this, but she’s never really established a pattern of normal eating, so this probably doesn’t help you much. I hope she starts eating again soon.

InactiveOwen just went through a stretch like this too! He went at least a month, barely eating anything at all. I didn’t know how he could possibly gain any weight and was concerned about how his weight would be at his 15 month appointment but he had actually gained over a pound. He’s gone back to eating normally plus some so it seemed that he just all of a sudden got over it. He did have teeth coming in and I think that was part of the problem. Could she be teething?

InactiveThanks guys!!
Laura ~ She is teething. She has 6 teeth and her eye tooth is swollen. I hope that is all it is cause I hear the eye tooth is one of the worst teeth to come it, pain wise. She would refuse food with the other teeth but not like this. she would eat one day and not the next, back and forth like that. Now she will eat, but only junk food. She is refusing all healthy foods. She is getting no meat, veggies or fruit and that is what scares me. She is still on her formula so at least she is getting those nutrients. She used to eat them before she got sick and now she will touch them and automatically refuse them. The foods she likes are hard and sugery, which is so weird cause if there mouth is hurting I would think they would not want the harder stuff. We even try harder healthy foods like apples and she wants nothing to do with them. We just keep trying, I just don’t want this to get worse.

InactiveWhen they’re teething even if their mouthes are hurting they want the hard texture to bite down on and rub their gums against to help the tooth break through..at least that’s what my older son’s dr told me when he was that age.
