We were actually at her 18 mos well child visit and she was performing “on cue” for the doctor. Ped didn’t seem too concerned, asked a few questions, and then asked to watch it for a while. She wanted to know if we placed our hands on her shoulders did she stop (which she does, then she starts again). Her daycare providers haven’t noticed it, and yet our regular babysitter (who is a teacher at the daycare center) commented to me this weekend that she noticed it when she was in Sarah’s classroom last week, so I think her daycare providers might just not be as observant with so many children in the room.
We are going to continue to watch it and if it persists, we will be a bit more aggressive with the ped to try to figure out what it is all about. I have done some searching and can’t seem to find anything that would point to what is happening, so perhaps it is benign. The only suggestion the ped had was that it might be self-soothing behavior. I find that hard to believe at this point, but we’ll see.
Thanks for your replies.
