Hello to all mamas of babies who have had endoscopies
My daughter, Eden just had her first endoscopy today at around 10:30am. She went so well with no complaints or crying throughout the whole ordeal (from her that is)
(I cried when she was going to sleep)
Straight after the endo I started dosing her with paracetamol at the correct intervals as she seemed to have a sore throat and wasnt much interested in her bottles for the day. She did however drink her full bedtime bottle before she went down for the night.
I put her to sleep around 4 hours ago as she was really tired and grumpy after such a long day and she has woken up crying 4 times in the 4 hours.
I have comforted her and given her binkie and she has settled pretty quickly the first 3 times but she doesnt want to settle this time. She seems restless and perhaps in pain??? Just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience???
Please let me know as i want to help her but i dont know what else i can do for her at this point besides lots of hugs and kisses…
Would love some feedback….. Thanks guys….

I think maybe it was the whole endo that threw him off of his schedule. I gave him 1 dose of tylenol right after the endo but he didn’t need any more than that. I am really not familiar with the medicine that you mention paracetamol. Could this cause sleeplessness?
I am glad that the endo went well! I haven’t looked around the board much yet today-Did they find out anything yet?
April 18, 2006 at 6:45 pm #6348AnonymousInactiveIm so glad everything went so well. Hopefully you can get some answers today. I would imagine she would be a little sore after the procedure. I would just give panadol every 6 hours for a day to help with the pain.
Let us know if you find out any results.
April 18, 2006 at 8:09 pm #6352AnonymousInactiveboth times the day and night of the endoscopy was wacky because andy’s entire eating schedule was thrown for a loop. also add to the that the crankyness from being disoriented due to the anesthesia and he just wanted lots of hugs and kisses plus extra midnight meals.
thankfully the anesthesia does cause an amnesia so they soon forget the events surrounding that time
April 19, 2006 at 12:32 am #6366AnonymousInactiveHey everyone and thanks for posting back
I was up with eden until 6am, she wouldnt settle until then, i am so tired but she eventually settled after another bottle (which she actually decided to drink) and then puked up half of it. i ended up falling asleep with her on the sofa
but she seems okay today. (hopefully)
thanks for your help
April 19, 2006 at 10:33 am #6377AnonymousInactiveWould Tylenol help? My son just had an endoscopy on Friday (14th) and He was kinda hoarse afterwards from the breathing tube they jam down their throats he also had his barky/raspy cough for 3 days. He amazingly slept great though. This is the 8th time he’s been under general anesthesia (the other 7 were under the age of 6 months) and on the previous occasions it would always take him a week (or two!) to get back on a normal sleeping/eating schedule. The older he is, the less things throw him off schedule. I was also never alowed in the room as them put him “under” the other times, it was a relief to be there to see what was going on and knowing that he didn’t struggle or freak out.
It sounds like it’s pretty normal (to me) and your daughter is probably just a little over-tired…and maybe a sore throat? Oh, I also wanted to add that my son has been napping twice a much since the endoscopy. And he’s been very overtired when I pick him up from daycare, I keep telling his daycare he needs more sleep – but it’s hard to get people to believe that an almost 3 year-old needs 2 2-hour naps a day (normally he has 2 1-hour naps a day). So give her an extra nap during the day maybe?

thanks for all your helpful suggestions, have been applying all of them – medicating her for the sore throat, extra naps etc and she seems to be sleeping through properly tonight.she has still been a bit grumpy though for some of the day which is completely out of character. she is probably just taking advantage of the fact that she can get away with murder at the moment as she is being spoiled rotton coz i feel guilty that she had to go through that yesterday. oh well what can you do, they are only babies for such a short time so why cant i spoil her for a couple of days……
also wanted to say that all went well and the doc called me today with the results……..
no allergies to anything that they tested for so he is going to change her to a different drug (LANSOPRAZOLE) which i think is called “Prevacid” in the US. she had been previously treated with (OMEPRAZOLE) which didnt seem to be doing much for her.
This drug (omeprazole) is only available in australia in the form of enteric coated tablets which i would have to break in half and dissolve in water (it tastes terrible) so ofcourse she spits most of it out and therefore it was having no effect.
The new drug LANSOPRAZOLE called “ZOTON” in australia is now available in granule sachets to be made into a suspension (hopefully flavored) so i am so happy with the way the doc has decided to treat her. I was hoping that this was the way they would proceed as i had read so many good comments about prevacid on this site so i decided to investigate on the net and after a while i finally came up with the drug and what it was called in australia and what forms it came in etc.
i dont think they usually use lansoprazole for treatment in children in australia, dont ask me why as all you mamas seem to be having so much success with it. i guess we are just a bit primitive down under….
anyway will let you know how eden progresses from here on in so until then i hope everyone is well and had a great easter with all the bubbies
talk soon…….
