InactiveIts a never ending story with Jay. On top of poor nursing, not eating solids, teething now my little one is waking up 4,5 times a night and not wanting to go to sleep. He had been a really good sleeper from day one. Now I don’t know what is going on. He doesn’t have a cold. The room is pretty nice and warm. I do have a humidifier going on all night. He still wakes up with stuffy nose. I don’t know if he is waking up with that or something else is going on. Tonight he went to sleep 2.5 hrs ago and already woken up 2 times. Did not want to nurse, just cried, I rocked him back to sleep. He gets Tylenol every once in a while for teething.
He is waking up frequently since he has been on Prevacid. But for the past few days this stuffy nose business started. What else can I do? I do put saline drops too when I can, but end up spraying all over his face since he hates it.

Inactivemy son woke up about every hour last night! and he just popped two top teeth… i really think the teething is a big reason behind the waking up. i hope u get a good night sleep soon as well!

InactiveI’m right there with you guys. Justice started out sleeping great and then all of a sudden. BAM! Now he’s not a good sleeper at all. Of course, he does much better if I nurse him all night long. He has two, possibly three teeth coming in right now and he is not sleeping well at all.

InactiveSorry to hear that you’re having problems. Hopefully it’s just teething. Can you give him some motrin and see if that helps. At least Hailey has always been a sleeper from hell- no expectation over here that she’ll sleep at night, so when she gets up 5 times we expect it. Hope it passes for you soon.

InactiveThe dr told us he was teething right after he turned 3 mo, now he is almost 9 mo, still teething….. he already has the two bottom teeth, I guess the top ones are bothering him. We have endoscopy scheduled for next week so he is to stay away from motrin, prevacid and his vitamin. Tylenol is ok the dr said. But I don’t think Tylenol is touching him at all. I also use Hylands gel and tablets. Nothing is working..
What do you think of the stuffy nose? The humidifier does not seem to be to working what else can I do?

InactiveSorry if you mentioned this but did you try just the normal saline drops- regularly. One of my friends swears by them.
Also I have found ibuprofen kicks a%^&e over paracetomal in the teething sakes.
I think I will do a sleep dance for all of you
. Good luck.January 27, 2007 at 9:13 pm #23316Anonymous
InactiveMotrin always worked better for my kids for teething too. As soon as his endo is done you can maybe try some and see if it helps him.
My kids have all had colds with stuffy noses that lasted up to two weeks. Maybe that’s what it is with him. It’s so frustrating because there really isn’t much you can do. Laura swears by saline drops like Therese said.
I might be mistaken about this, so definitely read up on it before you change anything, but I’m almost certain that I read somewhere that humidifiers can make things worse. You have to clean them regularily because they can become moldy and then they put mold spores into the air. Aslo, I rememeber something about cool mist being better than warm. I’m not sure which type you are using.
Well, I wish I had more advice. I sure hope things turn around soon. Please let us know how his endo goes.

InactiveOh, my! It does sound like teething. My son was born same month/year as your little one. He’s been doing weird stuff in his sleep too. And–what do you know–teeth! I also noticed that once those puppies were in, he had kindda learned, “Hey, when I cry and night…mom comes”. DARN! So…I went back to my tried and true “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Babyl” by Weissbluth, and got him back on schedule (though not without a fight). If you haven’t read the book…it covers EVERYTHING. He does mention he doesn’t think teething causes most night-waking. He thinks it does at first, but then the kid gets smart, like I said above.
In terms of the nose…Sander had a cold that felt as if it lasted WEEKS AND WEEKS. I found a great website I’ll post below. Though let me be clear…I am not a doctor. So please consider talking to your doctor first. It’s Dr. Sears’ website…who is not only a doctor, but one of the best, so I decided to assume he knew what he was talking about. Sander did well on all meds he suggests…but you do have to be INCREDIBLY careful with dosage. Chicago Tribune just posted an article mentioning infants coming into the ER with cold med overdoses.
The Vicks 44 Pediatric worked the best for us. Dr. Sears believes antisthimines (I am quite sure I didn’t spell that right) work significantly better than typical decongestants…even if not for allergies. Vicks has that.
I also agree that saline drops ROCK.
I promise…his cold lasted a long, long time. But it did go away.

InactiveYou know what???? What about Pediasure?? We started him on that a week ago, he does not drink a lot of it, just a few sips here and there. Maybe he is allergic to milk in it?? I’m just thinking and reading all I can, any thoughts on that??
