InactiveHello! Sarah has been on powdered Alimentum for a few months now. The doctors office gave us two bottles of RTF Alimentum…very nice of them! Wish I would have started asking for samples earlier! (Does anyone else ask for them, by the way?)
Onto my real question…I think I’ve read before that some babies tolerate one better than the other. I guess I”m just a little nervous to give her the RTF…but I don’t want it to go to waste either!
What have been your experiences?

InactiveActually I think most babies tolerate the RTF better because it tends to be thicker. I know my babies always tolerated RTF better (though they weren’t on Alimentum, but soy or milk formula). My friend who works in the baby dept at Walmart says many moms tell her their babies do better on RTF, too.
And yes, I used to ask for samples. They just throw them away when they expire and they don’t always remember to offer them, so why not ask? It saved me some money when Myles was on Soy becuase they used to always have Isomil on hand.

InactiveI think I was thinking of something Natalia might have said about one of them having more corn than the other and possibly being an irritant…hmm…???

I hope I DON’T start to like the RTF better! The powder is expensive enough! I’m sure I’ll love it b/c it’s more convenient. I’m just going to have to tell myself that I’m only using it b/c it was FREE and then it’s back to powder!

Glad to hear I’m not the only one who asks for the freebies! There was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much Alimentum under their cabinet (sample stuff). I wish they would have given me all of it! We go back in Dec. for another appointment and I’ll make sure to sweet talk the nurse again. Maybe she’ll give me tons as a x-mas present! I was thinking…my insurance co-pay is $25 and I walked out of there with well over $25 worth of Alimentum today…so if I can keep that up it almost makes it worth going to the doctor! HAHA!

Thanks!

Inactiveamy-the powder does contain much more corn syrup, which i thought was a problem for my son and i switched him to RTF and didnt see much of a difference.
he is on neocate now and doing great and that contains just as much corn syrup as alimentum powder does. so i guess that wasnt the problem.November 26, 2006 at 11:06 am #18994Anonymous
InactiveA few questions about RTF…
I tried the bottle of RTF yesterday and she was SOOO finicky with her bottles! It’s like she didn’t like the taste or something. It was such a struggle to get her to eat! Does the RTF taste that much different??
Also, since having 6-7 bottles of RTF, she has almost solid poops. Does this mean she’s constipated? Usually her poop is pretty mushy. ???
Thanks!

InactiveThere could definitely be a taste differnece between the powder and RTF. (I know there is a taste difference between powder and RTF for other formulas that my kids have been on).
For Myles once his poop became more solid he started having trouble passing them, so for him it was a move towards constipation….but I wouldn’t be concerned unless she starts having trouble moving her bowels or her stools become hard. It could just be a normal variation due to the RTF versus powder.

Inactiveshe definatly could be fussing over the texture and or taste difference… i took shanes cereal out of his bottle 2 weeks ago.. and about that time he started pushing his bottle away, and acting like he wanted it but than didnt want it! and i thought it was his teeth,or even the reflux getting bad.. than it hit me that maybe he wanted cereal back in it. soo… thats what i did, and ever since than he has been back to eating it! to make a long story short
, that could be what she is doing.. and your lucky that she got used to the powder instead of the other way around! -
