To my knowledge, that study was done on ADULTS not children. It came out last year and published that adults who were on high doses of PPI for a long time suffered increased risk of osteoporosis. I haven’t seen any similar published findings in children, though I suppose that it could have the same effect. Regardless, it’s a catch-22… possible bone mass loss, vs. possible esophagitis and future predisposition to precancerous cells and other complications.
When he said the “opening in the upper part of the stomach” was he talking about the LES, and basically saying that she still has reflux? If so, I can’t understand why he would take her off her PPI…. especially, to take her off and not replace her with anything. At the very least, I would see if he won’t put her on an H2 blocker, or can you try OTC pepcid? Can you try to find a new doc? Lifestyle changes like propping the bed are not easy for a toddler.
So sorry to hear that your doc is being such a PITA.
