A little background..
Andy is now 2 yrs old. He took meds from 3 weeks until oh about 14 months when we weaned since he had outgrown his compounded prilosec dose. At the end he was also taking erythromycin for suspected delayed gastric emptying. I say suspected because his endoscopy at 10 months of age showed damage to his stomach coupled with vomiting his food 2 hrs after a meal. Not every meal but often. So the doc didn’t bother with an emptying scan and wanted to just go for the erythromycin.
So from month 14 to month 20 Andy was reflux free i believe, happy, teething, just doing the toddler thing. Then the night time screaming started, he got croup so i figured he is getting over that. But the night time symptoms persisted and i took him to his ped hoping she would tell me he had an ear infection. NO dice, she ruled out all the excuses i gave and said it was reflux. Okay okay i was in deep denial.
So she gave us Prevacid capsules, decent dose. I sprinkle it on his food once a day(evening). Before the prevacid he still kept the vomiting 2 hrs after eating. The food looks thoroughly undigested, just munched up by his teeth. He doesn’t do it often.
He takes soymilk, no eggs, does fine with gluten only after over a year of no gluten. Skin test was positive for eggs a while back(nothing else) and we are going to do an egg challenge in the hospital now that he is over 2 yrs old.
Anyway….i call the ped GI with all the info and he wants to go straight for another endoscopy. I am kind of stunned since i was thinking this was more along the lines of delayed gastric emptying. The ped GI seems to think a possible milk allergy based on his last endoscopy plus not responding to prevacid.
Let’s see what am i asking you all by sharing this…umm well do you think you as a parent would go for the endoscopy? Anyone out there have a similar experience with their babe/toddler??
the ped GI is on vacation so i can’t speak with him personally but those are the notes he left for his nurse to relay to me(after reading my account of how andy vomits his food)…suspected milk allergy due to not responding to PPI.
If you have read all of this THANK YOU, you are a saint. I really need some insight because my mind is a bit clouded from the other pressing health issues my dh and dd have. My mind and spirit have been through the wringer in the past 5 months.

So, you mentioned that the Ped GI suspects a milk allergy – is he on dairy? You mentioned soymilk but not dairy…

he isn’t on dairy. i have kept him gluten free, casein free, milk free, and egg free since he was about 4 weeks old. at about 15 months we introduced gluten and he did just fine. loves rice etc.
i did mini dairy trials around 17/18 months just with yougurt and cheese only if he requested. he did fine..no vomiting, reflux etc. after that i would only give him yogurt or cheese if he enthusiastically requests it and then still watch him for 2 days or so. he is good about telling me when to stop the yogurt and will be happy with just 2 little cheese cubes.
