InactiveThis isn’t related probably, but I thought I’d ask if anyone else had a little one who stated screaming/crying BEFORE they pooped and then once they were done settled down and could even fall right back to sleep after diaper was filled. I’m still trying to sort things out myself..thinking I can do it faster then the doctors- I know they went to medical school not me but this has been going on for about 4 -5 days. I wasn’t sure if that was a sign of being allergic to formula or a symptom of reflux etc. I have search a little on the internet without much of an outcome. Just curious to see if anyone else has run across this problem.

InactiveI think when they are really little- before 8 weeks- some babies can be distressed by pooping (can’t recall how old your little one is), the new experience and everything can distress them a little. Alana was always funny before pooping-seemed to be in pain, would squeal and the like. The pead wasn’t worried and it did sort itself out. Anyway, it seemed to get better after this- around the time she started pepti-junior and zantac. Not sure if coincidental or not. Does she have a little ring around the anus, like it has been “burned”, versus nappy rash. Apparently this is sign of intolerance, but it also might hurt when pooped on? It will be interesting if this improves once reflux improves.

InactiveHow old is she?
How often does this happen daily? And what is the consistency of her stools?
Anything new in her diet or meds in the last 4-5 days?

InactiveColton did this and it was a major sign that he wasn’t tolerating Nutramigen. Two weeks after being on Neocate he never did it again.

InactiveWell the stool culture is back and it tested positive for Clostridium Difficile Colitis..mainly get it in hospitals (gee, thats where we’ve lived for the last 8 weeks basically, and caused by antibiotics such as ammoxicillian….which she will be on for the rest of her life. They have medicine for it but is harsh on system so since she’s had it so long now and the diareaha is lessening and so are the adominal cramps they aren’t going to treat her..just let her system get rid of it..unless she relapses…guess the drugs to treat this can be just as harsh on the GI system

InactiveI’m so sorry to hear that she has this. I had it for the last 3 months of my pregnancy, and it was absolutely awful. I used a probiotic called “florastor” that really helped me get rid of it. They have a kids version called florastor-kids. I’m not sure if this is an option for your daughter because of her heart problems, but if you’re interested the website is http://www.florastor.com. It really was the only thing that helped me. Good luck.
