Okay Cooper has made himself vomit 3 times in the last week. All 3 times he has been sticking his hand down his throat and gagging himself. The first time was last Friday in my bedroom floor about 2.5hrs after breakfast… not much since his tummy was pretty empty. Then Tuesday night dh said he did it at dinner in his highchair… pretty large amount as he was eating dinner, but he finished his meal with no problems. And then tonight at bedtime as we were trying to put his diaper on him. He doesn’t seem in pain at all, usually laughs as he does it. I think he is cutting his bottom 2 eye teeth as his drool is worse than usual for the last week.. but is this common. He always sticks his hands in his mouth when he is teething but the gagging is so new it is freaking me out. Is it a development thing? I just don’t even know. I don’t think it has to do with him being off meds so I am not concerned about that. I just don’t want this to turn into a bad habit that we can’t break. TIA

If you think its for attention, the best thing my friend found was to ignore it. Clean up the barf (of course) but don’t give Cooper any extra attention for the vomiting. Once he figures out that doing this won’t get him his way or get him attention, he’ll quit doing it.June 26, 2008 at 10:34 pm #53090AnonymousInactiveHopefully it’s just teething, and nothing more. Unfortunately though, Paige has only ever done this when we tried to cut back too much on her Prevacid and her reflux started bothering her.

I would hear her gag and then look back and see that she had her fingers down her throat. I took it to be a curiosity thing (she never did actually throw up). I hope it’s just a phase for Cooper too!

Landen is getting all 4 eye teeth and has been shoving his hands and objects into his mouth until he gags and sometimes vomits. (I try to get him before he vomits). The sad thing is, DH and I were laughing at him the other day. Our kids have this little basket of pretend food and Landen had this pretend leg of fried chicken that he was gagging himself with. LOL. He looked like a caveman and although he was gagging we just couldn’t help but laugh at him bc he was doing it to himself. Anyway, I think it is teething.
