InactiveFor those of you who have to make a trek to the health food store shopping for special foods, I was wondering how you keep the frozen/refrigerated foods cold on the way home? I am thinking of adventuring to Whole Foods but am concerned about the time it will take to get back home. I am in the South and the weather is already warming up here

InactiveCould you pack a cooler filled with ice packs and then put the food in there for the trip home. We live near many whole foods stores so I’ve never run into this problem, but we’ve had to do this many times when taking food with us for doctor’s appointments that are far away.

InactiveMy husband’s family lives in VT and they’re pretty far from any supermarkets so they do that exact thing – bring a cooler with ice packs and put all frozen stuff in there for the ride home. That should keep them cold for a while.
Good luck at Whole Foods – we just got one near us and it’s a dangerous place. We end up spending more than we expect every time, but the food is just fantastic! TONS of choices for the little ones too.

InactiveThanks, I am just so tired of not being able to find things for Seth at the regular stores (or finding things that are out of date!).

InactiveWell you should have REALLY good luck at Whole Foods. We’ve gotten him the Ian’s fish sticks and chicken nuggets there, sweet potato fries, soy boy raviolis (have you tried those yet?), organic veggies (fresh and frozen), rice milk, the cherrybrook kitchen cake mix, some granola type bars, cookies, crackers – there really is so much to choose from there. I think you’ll be very happy with the selection and freshness of everything there. They even have that dairy-free mac and cheese there – I think it’s called Mac and Chreese or something like that. It’s a little different but Owen liked it. Good luck!

InactiveI would try too to get a cooler or some type of insulated bag that you can keep the foods in.
Also, make sure to try the Amy’s brand strawberry or apple poptarts. My son loves them and they stay pretty soft after you toast them.
Also, would you know, if the breaded milk/soy free foods, like Tyson chicken nuggets or the fish sticks, are completely milk/soy free, including the breading.
Good luck and make sure to bring a full wallet, because you will end up spending a lot more then you came for. LisaMarch 1, 2006 at 7:24 pm #2793Anonymous
InactiveWe used a cooler filled with ice packs as well. It was definitely worth the effort.
