Good grief.. I don’t know what’s going with Ben lately, but after this stomach virus, his system is all out of wack. He’s constipated, and now he has a rash all over his truck.. mostly his chest and belly and his back. It looks like very, very fine little bumps.. It’s actually hard to even see them, but you can feel them with your hands.. like rough skin.
He is not eating anything new, and I can’t figure out what it is. He has been drinking milk for awhile now.. still not more than a few ounces a day.. he doesn’t like it much. But could he be reacting to it because the virus wiped the good gut bacteria? I just can’t figure this out.I haven’t called the pedi because he had something similar to this, just one his back when he was about 4-9 months old. It just suddenly went away one day. The doc. never seemed concerned about it, and just said it was dermatitis…. grrr…Anyway, it’s not getting better, and i think it seems to be getting worse.HELP!May 20, 2008 at 8:46 pm #51620AnonymousInactiveYeah, my first thought was his bumps on his legs (or was it his arms?) last year. Is it similar feeling to that? I would keep an eye on it and see if there are any other symptoms or discomfort…or if it spreads.
Hope it turns out to be nothing!May 20, 2008 at 8:51 pm #51622AnonymousInactiveActually, he still has those bumps on his arms and legs.. This is different.. they are really, really, really small and hard to see.. The ones on his arms and legs, you can see, almost look like little pimples.

I ask b/c Cooper always gets a rash under his neck/chin from drool used to be spit up but now drool and it gets worse when he is hot. We had to use a mixture of hydrocortisone and lotrimin while we were at the beach b/c I didn’t have this prescription stuff. but that cleared him up beautifully. Is it bothering him? I would watch it. His poor little body has been through so much lately he just can’t get a break can he. Maybe even try a dose of oral benadryl to see if that helps.

They were right! That doesn’t sound like a typical virus rash, but they did tell me that a rash right after a virus was pretty common and would last about a week…..
If you are unsure, I would call a pediatric dermatologist even just to ask the question over the phone. THey are a LONG wait in our area, but if you call and ask, they may say “bring him in” and fit you in……Just a thought.May 21, 2008 at 9:30 am #51645AnonymousInactiveWell, surprise, surprise… it’s almost gone! He woke up this morning, and I can barely tell it’s there. I had forgotten that I ran out of his normal lotion. He uses a thick cream due to dry skin, and I had been using some Baby Burt’s Bees. We’ve used that before with no problem, but I guess it wasn’t hydrating enough this time around… either that, or it was just a viral thing. Anyway, I used his regular stuff yesterday, even put it on a couple of times, and it did the trick!
Anyway, all’s well.. rash is clearing up, and I’m really getting some fish oil to try to help with his sensitive/dry skin! Thanks for all your thoughts everyone!May 21, 2008 at 9:43 am #51646AnonymousInactiveI am sorry I did not see this sooner. It might be Roseola. kaden had it before and it was viral symptoms and then when he got better the rash appeared (the rash signifies that it the virus is over and it is a harmless, painless rash) Anyway, just a thought!
glad all is better today!
