Inactivehe is up and wired all day!!! I know, I know- what am I complaining about??? We have made HUGE strides in the sleep dept, from none to this, I am so thankful. I hope everyone who is still battling sleep issues finds some zzz’s for everyone is thier house!
I am really not trying to complain about this, just wondering if there is something I can do…
He has been sleeping from about 8-9pm to 5-6am then up for an hour or so and then back out until sometimes even noon. The thing is he is so energetic for the rest of the day that he won’t settle down for a nap. He acts sleepy, but just can’t fall or stay asleep.
Is he trying to spend his awake hours fueling up for the long stretch at night?? Or is he so tired from being up all day, that he sleeps all night???
Should I interrupt the mega snooze for some calories and see if he evens out during the day?
I know frequent wakings are a symptom of MSPI, which he has, and I think we may be on top of that with the alimentum RTF.
Any ideas would be great!

InactiveI’m guessing he is getting his sleep quota.
A couple of thoughts. I wonder what would happen if you only let him nap for a couple of hours in the morning and then woke him…would he take a nap in the afo? I’d probably give it a go myself. 2-8 seems like a long time to be up for a really little one.
6am to 12 pm also a long time to go without food…I was told up until three months to wake if they didn’t feed within 5 hours (not sure if thats true just what I was told).
Do you wrap him…I know that helps Alana still when she is a bit overstimulated and I know she is tired but she just can’t settle.

InactiveI agree with Therese. I generally would wake my babies every 3-4 hours during the day to feed them. This helped them to get their calories during the day and also prevented them from getting too much sleep duing the day and then be up and night. I know that’s not the problem with Cooper because he is sleeping at night (Hooray!), but that long morning nap might be too long. It’s possible that he’s sleeping that much in the morning because he’s still not getting enough sleep at night. My babies all crashed in the early am until they started gettting 10 – 12 hours of sleep at night. Then they could get up in the morning, stay up for a while, and take two or three shorter naps during the day.
So, I’d wake him after maybe 2-3 hours into that mega morning nap and try feeding him and see if he’ll stay up for a while and then take another nap or two later in the day.
I’m glad to hear the Alimentum RTF is working and that he’s sleeping so well at night!!!

InactiveThanks ladies- he takes so long to settle down for a nap that by the time he is beyond tired, he is hungry again!
I will try limiting his morning nap- it’s just so hard to wake a sleeping baby, especially a sleeping baby who has been up 24/7 for the past two months. It’s so tempting to just let it go ( obviously I have… ).
Even during his mega nap, he whimpers and writhes like his tummy hurts, so it’s not a deep sleep. Then the rest of the day is is worse…
I have tried swaddling, but he HATES it! So funny because it is the only way my older son would ever go to sleep.
About the enough calorie thing- he is up to about 6 ounces a bottle, so should I still worry about him going that long during the night?? I thought this was way too much for his age, but his pedi said no prob. What were you kiddos downing ( if bottle fed ) at that age?

InactiveMy babies rarely took more than six ounces even towards six months and even beyond, so I think six ounces at his age is substantial, but not too much. I babysat a baby when I was a teen who drank 8 ounces every 4 hours at only 2 months of age! They’re all so different.
I don’t think it’s too long for him to go without feeding if he sleeps all night, just during the day I’d wake him every 3-4 hours, mainly to get him used to getting his calories in during the day and to give him more awake time during the day so he’ll maybe start sleeping more at night. He’s still pretty young though, and you seem to think he’s still uncomfortable so it may not be the right time to try and get all of this worked out. Maybe you still need to make sure his meds and formula are right. Maybe a higher dose of Prevacid (Myles really needed the full 30 mgs that marci-kids reccommends) and a trial of Neocate? I don’t know….I just get the feeling that he’s not yet pain free…though there definitely seems to be improvement.
Your his mommy so you are the best judge of how he’s feeling…..I’m just throwing ideas out there.

InactiveI wouldn’t be too concerned about him not feeding during the long night sleep. I would, however, wake him during the day to feed and get his calories in. Alana was up to 6 to 8 ounces x 5 bottles a day before we started solids at 6 months. As long as he is gaining weight I wouldn’t worry about it to much.
Maybe “accidently” up the dose to 30mg for a few days and see if it helps??? Alana also needed the full marci-kids reccomended dose to see max benefit.

InactiveJustice is now sleeping great at night, but his naps are horrible. I have even darkened his room. it looks like night all the time now. Anyway, he will only nap for about 30 min. The longest is 40 min. He’s tired and rubbing his eyes, but just won’t sleep for long. I have no advice, but would love to hear what the other ladies say too.
