lori, i think as long as they did a biopsy, they would know if she had it. visually, they can guess at what they see, but they need to look through a microscope to be sure. when our ped gi showed me the scope picture he told me that it was either thrush or allergies—-the biopsy results confirmed it. when sylvia had her scope, visually, the doc said things looked ok—but the biopsies told a whole different story. when tianna had her scope, everything looked fine, too. we didn’t even know she had reflux until they looked under the microscope—-she didn’t have obvious symptoms.
people can get thrush from being on antibiotics. my guess is that when an area of the body is already compromised by another condition, like reflux, the body’s resistance just can’t fight off the yeast—-it can be pretty persistent, expecially if someone eats too much sugar or too many simple carbs—-and then if you add antibiotics to the mix—–you’ve set up a buffet for the little buggers!
sandermom—if your baby still has reflux that is inadequately treated—-all the feeding therapy in the world is not going to fix it. personally, i’d hold off on a therapist until you find the real root of the problem.
