InactiveI am about to snap, Aidan is sick AGAIN..driving me nuts, why can’t he just have one month where he doesn’t have a cold??? And with him it’s not jsut a snotty nose thing it.s a “I’m miserable, snotty sneezing, coughing mess” and his reflux always rears it’s ugly head ten fold. Went to the ENT and he passed the hearing test this tim (ears were clear according to the doc) and the ENT wants him off the omnicef, he doesn’t like the idea ok putting babies on antibiotics long term b/c of resistance , blah, blsh, but I’m keeping him on it til his cold is gone to try to ward off another ear infection. He’s only been on it about a weekish so that’s not to long (yet) he is supsosed to continue on it for another 14 days….
I am toying with the idea of upping his prevacid dose, but the only way I can is if I use the leftover packets we have from when he was 2 months old (they didn’t work) I can’t afford to get his solutab rx early, and I have a bunch of refills on the packets which insurance WILL pay for…so I’m not sure if I should do a packet (30mg) and half a solutab while he’s sick…the packets were bad for him when he was little but I’m thinking they might be ok now….He’s just miserable reflux wise because of this stupid cold (or whatever it is)…..I don’t know what to do,he’s hacking all day, tylenol multisymptom plus infant drops provide some relief from the coughing/comgestion, which is what I give him at night so he can sleep (it’s weight based and he weighs 23-11 so he can take the 2 year old dose)…
I’m just scared that the packets would make him worse…on the other hand if they work as well as the solutabs then I could keep refilling them and have enough to use if I feel he needs it past one (when his rx runs out..)
Sorry this is super long but I just have no idea what to do to…I am tkaing him in to his doc on monday to make sure it is just a cold…..UGH UGH UGH UGH I just want him to be happy again.

InactiveOh, Jill…I sure know what you mean about these lousy colds.
We’ve been fortunate this year (THANK GOD!!!) but last year when Myles was a newborn, Liza and Ellie were both sick nearly every other week for the entire fall and winter. I was going out of my mind. It really is harder when they are just babies, and that much worse when they have reflux as well, so I really feel for you and for little Aidan.Do you think he’s catching all of these bugs from play groups? or from his brother? or church? I know most people wouldn’t do this, but I pretty much kept Myles in isolation until his reflux was gone….no church, no playgroups, no restaurants, etc… because I could not stand dealing with him being sick on top of all the reflux mess. Even with Liza and Ellie being sick constantly I was able to keep him healthy almost the entire 9 months. I think he had one cold and one ear infection in 9 months. I had terrible cabin fever, but it was worth it.
What kind of reaction did he have to the packets back when he was 2 months old?
Good news about the hearing test!!
I hope he’s feeling better soon. It’s just not fair for him to be sick so much.

InactiveWell, Austin is always sick to, but I am a hand sanitizer freak, I have a huge bottle in the diaper bag! It’s probablyfrom his cousins though, they’re still little, 6 mos and 2 years. It’s just so frustrating, Austin never got sick and he was around babies all the time!!! He did cut his tooth finally, so maybe that was an issue.
About the packets, I’m not sure looking back if he had his first cold or if it truly was the packets. He was started on the solutabs, but for insurance reasons had to switch to the packets. After being on them about 2 weeks, he started to scream all the time, was down to 7 oz a day of formula, lost his voice and started snoring!!! SO, I told them I wanted him back on the tabs, and he was fine after he stopped the packets!!!
I gave him a bit of one today, but it’s hard to tell if it’s working b/c he’s annoyed about other stuff too!!!

InactiveIt’s so hard to figure these things out.
I hope the packets help him feel better this time.I carry that hand sanitizer with me every where I go, too. Even Myles knows how to scrub his hands with it.

InactiveLOL Aidan holds his hands out when he sees the bottle, I really carry it around b/c it’s cheaper than a high chair and cart cover! I just slather them with hand sanitizer (like those wipes they have at Kroger)!

InactiveI thought I had the only child who could say “hand sanitizer” when she was 2.5!!! Glad to know I’m not alone! As for the permanent colds, I hear you there… Hailey has yet another one- a bad one too… she was barfing so much from the cough (every time she coughs she has a reflux attack) that we were initially wondering if it was a stomach flu. But then the snot started pouring and the fever tonight, so probably another ear infection for us too. I feel your pain. Hope all our little ones are feeling better soon.

Inactiveinterestingly enough, (and I forgto to mention this) the ENT gave Aidan and AUsitn the same rx nasal spray, he said that a LOT of the babies that are just snotty and miserable ALL the time have allergies!!
