InactiveI’m with Karen here – I really would wait another month before trying
solids. And she has a good idea with trying 24 cal/formula in the
meantime instead to deal with the hunger issues. When you do start solids, since Ian and Tyler seem to have similar
issues, maybe try the foods that Amber/Tyler have been successful with?
I think she said banana, potato (white), chicken and beef?April 11, 2006 at 7:42 am #5862Anonymous
InactiveAmber-Yes, I completely agree with you re: gut allergies. That’s the way I took it too. Like the allergist said-an intolerance which can turn into an allergy if you keep giving the food. She also told me kids tend to outgrow those. Also-thanks for tip on pea size. Allergist did tell me start with a teaspoon and I have in the past, but got a little overly confident with carrots as he liked them SO much. I do feel guilty:( One more thing, we had same experience with rice! No explosive bm’s on it before when in his bottles (and much more then 1 tsp) and now-complete craziness! But then again poops were normal back then..
Karen S.-Please!!! Thank you for your two cents. I absolutely want to hear it. We are holding off again for awhile. We did increase the calories to 24oz per GI’s advice when Ian lost almost 2 pounds before and during hospital. Once his eating picked up, we stopped because it also made his already loose stools complete water as well (although we’ve yet to see a return to normal). That’s why the high osmolarity theory makes so much sense to us-when I called Elecare they told me if you make it a higher calorie, it can get looser. Although Ian’s showing no signs of it, we do worry about malabsorption chances. And yes, I SO do over analyze everything! It’s my nature-if something’s not right-I fix it or try to fix it(not just with my son). I’ll never be the type of person to sit by and accept anything I’m not happy about. Sometimes it works for me (I had a real struggle trying to get Ian feeling better in the beginning and went to a few GI’s and Ped before we got him Elecare and Prevacid-right dose. No doctors ever said give it 30 min before, or compounds are unstable, etc. So thankfully, I found you guys and did additional research. So that time-it worked me. Sometimes, like now, I probably just need to wait it out. But I know in my heart, until my little guy feels better, it’ll be hard for me to settle. Believe me, it drives DH a little crazy sometimes and I can’t blame him!
) I long for problems about braces! I look forward to please! On to feeding hospital!!!
