InactiveI just thought I’d post to see if you all have experienced this or to get your take on it…
Caden had mucousy stools from about 6 weeks until we started solids at 5 months (not every bm but sporadically). I never could correlate the mucousy ones with anything I was eating (he was strictly breastfed until 5 months). The solids seemed to help. He now has normal mustard looking breastfed stools.
I remember my other boys being that way too. Any ideas as to why?
I’m just curious, because if they had intolerances to something in my breastmilk, it wouldn’t suddenly go away once solids were introduced. Or, I guess it could be coincidental that they outgrew the intolerance around the time of solid introduction? But, that seems a little too good to be true since all 3 of them were this way.
I’m just curious about what you all think of this…it makes me wonder if the breastmilk alone was just not enough “bulk” to travel easily through their systems, because once the solids were introduced (just a little solids – maybe a spoonful or two of pears for example) the difference was amazing.
Caden hasn’t had a single mucousy bm since we started some solids at 5 months…he doesn’t each much solids – just a bit here and there.
Thanks for any insight

InactiveHmmm….that is strange. I have no clue as to why the solids would help with mucous. That is great news though that the mucous has cleared up!

InactiveIs it possible that he outgrew his intolerances making for better bms?

InactiveThis is my very unscientific theory. Maybe the solids somehow absorb some of the mucous so that it’s less evident in his stool.

InactiveI was actually thinking something along the same lines as Christine. When I started Brianna on solids her poops became a lot different so maybe the different make up of solids has something to do with it. Of course…I almost failed science in high school so maybe I should leave the theorys to someone else

InactiveAlana had liquid poos on Pepti-jnr before solids. Even with a couple of mouthful of solids they started to bulk up. By a tablespoon we had solid poos. So I guess i am saying solids can change poos considerable. My theory would be that the smalll amount of solids are changing the appearance of the poo but the mucous is in there somewhere on the sporadic occasion they used to appear!
