So yesterday we went to the dr and got a scrpt for Previcd solutabs. Grey is 3 mo old, currently on Prilosec 2x day- 2.5 ml a day- has been on 1 bedtime dose a day for 3 weeks, we added the second dose 1 week ago After reading these forums, I decided to try adding back some Zantac (dr ok’d 1 ml at dinner time) I gave him 1 ML about 5 hrs after he had gotten his am prilosec and he took a 2 hour nap! I had to wake him to feed him he had slept so long. I gave him another 1 ml of the Zantac at dinner time and he was so content for the entire evening. He usually gets fussy/tired before bedtime. He was up and happy until 8:30 when I gave his pm dose of Prilosec. I was so hopeful for a good night, but he was awake and upset within an hour and stayed that way throughout the night. I ended up holding him all night and he was on and off, sqirmimg and rubbing his face into me alot. I really thought that the Zantac with the prilosec was working! And I am hesitant to try the Previcid solutabs b/c I read here that they can be irriatating to a baby with MSPI which I suspect he has.
I am lost and deperate for a good nights sleep- this has been going on for 3 months and I am at my wit’s end! Any suggestions??!!

You are right that some babies have a hard time with them, but it isn’t always b/c of MSPI sometimes the babies are just sensitive. How far apart were dinner and the 8:30 prilosec dose? You may not have spaced them just right and that could be the problem, or you might need to do a higher dose a bedtime to get him comfortable. We were on 30mg/day of prevacid from the time he was 4 months old until 16 months old and not to devastate you anymore my little guy didn’t sleep well until he was 16 months old and I finally gave up and put him in his bed and let him put himself to sleep, until then I rocked him for all naps and bedtime until he was out which is why he didn’t sleep through the night… now I waited until I KNEW he wasn’t in pain anymore to do it, but probably could have done it earlier! Good luck, it does get better.

I was wondering if the MSPI affected him when you began solids?Congrats on baby #2 and best wishes for a healthy, reflux free baby!December 1, 2009 at 1:02 pm #64796AnonymousInactiveit did not affect us other than having a hard time finding finger type foods that didn’t have milk/soy in them, but there have been other babies on here that didn’t do so well with starting solids. We waited until 5 months, would have waited until 6 but he really wanted to eat and I took it very slowly, I only introduced 1 new food each week and very small amounts at that.. I think 1 jar of stage 1 lasted 3 to 4 days, so he didn’t get very much until I knew it wasn’t going to cause any problems. The only thing he had problems with was chicken ( I guess now he was intolerant). There are some great milk/soy free finger foods available if you google healthy times, we used there teething biscuits, puffs and arrowroot cookies and he loved them, they aren’t too expensive and I just would order several boxes at a time to help with shipping costs. HTH.
