InactiveLately Hailey has been telling me “I don’t like soup” or “I don’t want soup”. I haven’t been able to figure out what she’s talking about, and figured that it was a feeding aversion thing… like maybe they’d been giving soup at the daycare and she didn’t like it.
But yesterday, she was on the couch and suddenly cried out “NO SOUP”, and then she vomitted on the sofa. When I asked her what happened, she said “soup” and pointed at her vomit. The morning before, I saw her put her hand under mouth and make a face, and then she said “I have soup in my mouth”. I didn’t know what she was talking about so I assumed that I didn’t hear her right- until she vomitted that night.I don’t know why it made me feel bad for her. Maybe b/c I though she’d be off meds by now, but hearing my two year old articulating her reflux in child terms kind of hit me. It was really sweet, but I felt bad for her.… I guess she’ll never be a big soup eater!

InactiveOh Lori, I am so sorry. The kiddos being able to tell you what is wrong is bittersweet. On one hand, it is good to find out what is bothering them but it is heartwrenching I know. I see she has been telling you that for days but do you think it could be a virus? It would sadden me too to think she is still spitting up that much due to reflux. Big hugs to both of you!

InactiveOH, so cute and so sad at the same time….It is so amazing though, how their little minds make such big connections. Hugs to you as well!!!

InactiveI’m wondering if maybe it’s her molars?… I noticed that she’s getting the ones right at the back and her reflux hasn’t been great at the same time. I still hear her refluxing quite a bit at night and also during the day.

InactiveSorry to hear… Matthew is getting his molars and it is hellish… he has been crying/tearing up. Funny how they articulate. Matthew now gags and says — no throw up, stay in. When he says nothing…. means it is coming! Can you see the molars? I look into Matthew;s mouth and i can see them breaking through… so i know that is prob what is going on

InactiveThat’s really cute. Sad too though. I hope those molars come through soon so she doesn’t have to deal with her “soup” quite so much.

InactiveYeah, I can see the molars breaking through her gums. Do you think it would affect the reflux? Teething with her regular teeth was really hard too.

InactiveMolars definitly affect the reflux. My doctor had once said that teething causes more hystamine acids in the stomach (one of the three acids she said, but who knows) and so that is why the benadryl helped so much because it was an antihystamine. It did work well for us. Is that an option for Hailey?

InactiveYES! Teething always aggravated Seth’s reflux.

InactiveYes — like Ann Marie said, our ped in Spain always explained that any pain was likely to increase acid production… so make it more uncomfortable for our little ones!

InactiveWell that’s comforting. At least it offers some hope for an end in sight.

InactiveWhat a smart little one you have! A great description of reflux, unfortunately she has to experience it! Teething and reflux has been horrible with both girls but especially Taylor. I hope those molars pop out soon so poor Hailey doesn’t have to have any more dreadful soup!
