InactiveMy 2 month old daughter has been suffering with terrible gas and now
constipation since she was 2 weeks old. She also suffers from acid
reflux (on prevacid). She was on Goodstart Supreme but the doctor just
switched her to Goodstart soy and she has been drinking it since
Friday. I feel like it is making things worse. I previously had been
having to make her poo and now it takes three or four tries for it to
work and now is a little hard. I have also been giving her prune juice.
I am suppose to be trying the soy until Tuesday. Just so worried I am
making things worse. Has anyone else ran into trouble with soy and
tummy aches? Is it normal for it to keep making her miserable until 5
days?August 26, 2007 at 1:00 pm #41709Anonymous
InactiveSoy can definitely cause constipation and gas.

InactiveYes, soy formula definitely makes them constipated. We also tried prune juice, that didn’t seem to help either. Our specialist put our daughter on Glycolax for constipation and that helped while she was on soy. We ended up switching formula though and the pooping is better. It’s amazing how constipating that stuff is and what a difference it makes when they can go! Oh, also our pediatrician had her on Lactulose to help with the constipation and our specialist said that actually made things worse. Lactulose usually makes them gassy. Good luck, I know what you’re going through!

InactiveSoy is incredibly constipating!! And if by some chance she has MSPI (even mildly so) it will aggrivate reflux. 🙁 Have you tried any of the hypo formulas? I hope she is feeling better soon! I agree that if the soy is ok and it’s just constipation, you may want to try a good laxative. We use Mirilax (I think Glycolax is very similar as mirilax is polyetholyne glycol) and it works wonders for Landen.

InactiveSoy gave Hailey such wicked constipation that after not pooping for a whole week after receiving enough laxative and suppositories to clear out an adult, she ended up in the emerg to get disimpacted… not pretty!
If your little one can’t do regular formula, you might want to check out alimentum or nutramigen- they’re partially digested, I believe, and work better for kids who are MSPI. Beyond that, there’s also neocate. For a temporary constipation fix, OTC miralax and OTC benefiber work well. Good luck. -
