InactiveWe have been swaddeling Cooper now for about 4 weeks consistently, we did it in the beginning, but he hated it and would always get out. Anyway, he is much better with it now. He is a super active baby, always kicking and waving his arms. We never put his arms in b/c that makes things worse. So my question. He always gets out of this swaddle once he starts wiggling, now turning sideways in his crib (I’m almost afraid he will suffocate on his blanket) and when we find him he is uncovered and I think probably a little cold b/c of not being covered up. Does anyone have any suggestions about swaddleing and how long should I keep trying before I just put him in his sleep sack. We did that after his night feed last night and he still woke up 3 1/2 hours later, but this time he wasn’t “cold”. I am just trying to find ways to help my little guy sleep better. Thanks.

InactiveI think most people only swaddle for the first few months. It can be a hard habit to break if you swaddle them for sleep past two or three months of age. I’d just start using the sleep sack. My babies never stayed covered either, so I just dressed them warmly, and used layers if I felt they needed it.

InactiveI swaddled Dagney until she was 5 months old. At first I used a blanket, but when she started to get out of it, I used the Swaddleme, but fastened it under her arms, so that she could keep them out and move around. I really think it helped her keep her good sleep habits even throughout her reflux bad days. Once she hit 5 months, I started using the small (0-6mo) Halo sleepsack. I was a little nervous that she wouldn’t sleep if she weren’t swaddled, but that wasn’t a problem with her. Once she outgrew that, I didn’t want to use the 6-12 month Halo sleepsack because it just seemed so big, so I bought a sleep sack at Target (I forget the exact brand, but i think it was Target’s brand), which was for 0-9 month old babies, and she did well with that too. I considered also just using those sleeping bags that Carters makes (just like blanket sleepers, only a bag & no legs), but I was afraid she’d either be too cold or her bare little legs hitting each other may bother her.

InactiveI swaddled Justice until he was 5 months also. He was a big and strong baby so I had to buy fabric and have someone sew it for me. Check out the Happiest baby on the block. Most people think their babies don’t like to be swaddled, but it is because they are not swaddled tight enough. Dr. Karp actually explains it all. I think he is a quack for his beliefs, but as far as how to take care of a baby he is so right. This is the site http://www.thehappiestbaby.com/ I would at least check it out and if it doesn’t work maybe some of the other moms have some advice.

InactiveWe swaddled Taylor forever it seems, I really think she was 9 months old until she continually got out all the time and it was just enough. We used the Miracle Blanket and it worked great. Here is a link to their site, it really worked to hold her hand down close to her body, she was always moving her hands and legs and constantly clawing at her face and popping her pacifer out so she would be upset wake up and cry. It worked really well for us, once she was too big we no longer wrapped her legs just her arms. Here’s the link http://www.miracleblanket.com/index.htm

InactiveWe used the sleep sack as soon as Brianna could get out of the swaddle. There was a brief period of about two weeks when Brianna was around 4 months that we did it again, but the problem was she still liked sleep on her tummy…and swaddled on the tummy was making me too nervous (even though my doc OK’d it). I have found with Brianna we can’t use a blanket because she is a mover in her sleep. We just keep our house relatively warm, and Brianna sleeps with an undershirt and a sleeper every night.

InactiveWe used the miracle blanket with Alex for a while (maybe 3 months) then we switched to a sleep sack or the carter’s sack that someone mentioned. With the sleep sack we just put it on over her pjs. With the carter’s sack we put a onesie and socks underneath. The only time we ever had a problem with her being cold was when we visited my dad this winter. He keeps his heat set much lower than ours, so she woke up shivering in the middle of the night. We had put a blanket on her (over the sack) but, of course, she kicked it off.
