InactiveWhen switching formulas, do you have to switch it gradually? Is that because it is easier on their systems, or because of the taste difference? Or both?
I am off to Wal Mart to look for their version of Gentlease! Yay!

Inactivei think you should switch slowly, for both of the reasons you mentioned. oh i am so excited to see how she does! gentlease is a very good formula.. i am sure she will do well.

InactiveOur Super Wal Mart didn’t have it!!!! I stood in the aisle forever trying to find it!
Sooo, since my main purpose for going was formula, I went ahead and bought a big can of Good Start. It’s probably not as cheap as Wal Mart Gentlease, but it’s a HUGE improvement over Alimentum!
I won’t be starting the switch until Friday. Wish us luck and of course I’ll keep you posted…every confusing detail of the way!

InactiveI would switch slowly. Did you buy the powdered Good Start? I did two ounces a day for two weeks with Myles, and when he seemed fine after the first two weeks I increased it a little more every couple of days. He was very resistant to the taste initially. Hopefully Sarah won’t be as particular. Good luck. I hope she does well on it.

InactiveYes, I bought the powdered Good Start. It was a lilac can. It didn’t say DHA/ARA or whatever, which I’ve heard can be an irritant. I was hoping to make the gradual switch all in one weekend, but you’re probably right that I should start slower. I just hated to have the sitter mixing two different formulas for bottles. We’ll find a way to make it work, I just didn’t want it to be complicated for her.
I would start the switch tomorrow but my MIL is coming to stay with Sarah Thursday and I don’t want to chance having a fussy baby. MIL hasn’t spent a great deal of time with Sarah for long periods so I’m nervous as it is about a full day alone, so I’ll keep the complications to a minimum and start Friday.

Thanks!

InactiveGood luck. I am glad you got the can without DHA/ARA’s in it because it sure did work great for us. This was after try DHA/ARA and finding out that he couldn’t tolerate it. We went from Neocate to Goodstart and we did two ounces for a week and then changed to four ounces for a week and then a final switch. We did ours so slow because we were on Neocate and the taste is so much different.

InactiveOk, we were crazy to do it, but we went cold turkey over the weekend from Neocate to Goodstart without the DHA/ARA and so far success! Today is day 5 and so far so good!
I would not necessarily recommend going cold turkey, but it did work for us.
I hope you are successful as well!

InactiveWhen I switched Abby from Alimentum to Good start, we gave her 1/2 and 1/2 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday then switched to full strength Good Start on Monday. I think it has been 4 weeks now (time sure flies) and haven’t had any problems. This was kind of the quick way to do it but I figured if there was going to be a problem, it would develop quickly as well and I would be ready to go right back to the Alimentum. Now that Abby is going to turn 1 on Friday, I guess we will be trying the switch to whole milk – not sure exactly how I’m going to do the transition yet.
Good Luck and keep us posted on how its going!!
