InactiveHi all:
Sometime this week (if I get the courage), we are going to try switching Abby from Alimentum to a milk-based formula. She has been eating cheese and hasn’t had any noted problems with dairy products so we thought it would be a great time to try. Any ideas, suggestions???? Do we wean her off of the Alimentum by gradually mixing in more milk based or just go cold turkey? I never had to deal with this with Kayla so I want the opinions of the “experts”
before I call my doctor’s office. Thanks in advance!!
Robin

InactiveYes, I would start with Good Start. When I did it with Myles I gave him two ounces per day (added to his breast milk or soy which is what he was on at the time) for two weeks. I did the two ounced per day because I’ve read on here that it can take two weeks for the proteins to build up enough to cause symtoms.
After two weeks with him showing no signs of an intolerance or allergy I began increasing the good start but still did it gradually. I think I did 4 ounces per day for another week, and then kept adding more and more until I was sure he was fine with it.
Another reason why it’s best to start with just an ounce or two added to what they are already drinking is that some babies will not like the taste of the new formula and will initially refluse it. Myles hated the Good Start once it got to be 1/2 or more of the volume of his bottle. So the gradual way is the only way that would have worked for him anyway.
Good luck. I hope she does well on it.

Inactivei plan on doing goodstart too when i try, but i have heard on here that a mom was suggested to do one like similac regular, because the doc wanted to know if there really was a milk intolerance, and that would be a easy and fast way to find out.. i guess that does make a good point. but, its a little scary 😉

many babies that ARENT intolerant to milk protein cant even handle similac advance. it is known to be hard on the tummy.
