What are the symptoms of reflux in toddlers? Is there a check list of symptoms somewhere online? thanks

there probably is a basic check list somewhere—but the sometimes the symptoms would not even give you a clue that they were caused by reflux. i heard of a 13 year old girl with a chronic cough. when i first got it, i had really bad pain in my chest, through to my back, all the way up my neck and into my teeth. i once woke up during the night with my teeth hurting—and nothing else. it wasn’t until i got up that the pain moved to my chest. my nephew always felt like he had something caught in his throat. one of my twins didn’t even have any symptoms until she had a biopsy for celiac and the ped gi said, “she must have pretty bad reflux.” my other twin was already on zantac, but she was always feeling like she was short of breath. we thought allergies or anxiety—then i had one of those aha! moments and looked to see if reflux could cause shortness of breath, then i asked the ped gi confirmwhat i had read on the internet. he told me that, yes, it can cause spasms which will make you feel like you are short of breath. we switched her to a PPI and the breathing problems went away.

what type of symptoms are you seeing or hearing?

Can be the same as in infants. Others include, coughing, gagging, vomitting into mouth or outright, frequent night waking, snoring, congestion, frequent hiccups, bad breath, poor appetite, FTT, tooth decay, respiratory problems, talking about stomach aches, throat or mouth pain, hurting in the mouth/throat/stomach, etc. My daughter used to talk about disliking “soup” when she was much younger. It took me a while to figure out that was what she called the reflux that came up into her mouth that she swallowed back down.

constipation can also be a real factor in helping to cause or aggravate reflux—if it can’t get out—-it’s going to back up. kevieb2009-08-18 09:41:16
