InactiveMarisa has had a tough time with her finger foods lately – she wants
her cheerios, goldfish, etc but she keeps sticking them in her mouth
and pushing them with her finger hard on her gums – toward the back of
her mouth on either side. The food invariably comes out and she pushes
it back in – this happens a few times – foods like puffs of course
dissolve but stuff like goldfish (which she loves) end up mainly
getting spit out and making a mess. Is this likely just a teething
issue with her gums being too sore to properly mash up the foods? Only
her bottom front two teeth are in but she’s obviously working on others
– but won’t let me see/feel of course!June 27, 2006 at 8:56 am #10617Anonymous
InactiveHi Karen –
I think this is definitely a teething thing – Owen has done it every time he’s teething badly. He will chew food in the sides like you said over and over – and now that he’s older he’ll hold it in there for a while (as in hours after eating) and then eventually he spits it out. It’s SO gross – and then I worry about him not eating enough too. It usually doesn’t last too long, maybe a week or so, and I think it coincides with the teeth breaking through.
Owen and Marisa seem to be more alike all the time!!!

InactiveThanks for the reassurance as always, Laura – yea – they totally sound
alike! So you think maybe it means more teeth are popping through this
week? I hope so.June 27, 2006 at 9:55 am #10626Anonymous
InactiveI bet it does – with Owen it usually happens during the week prior to new teeth. Last time it happened it was really bad – and he would end up spitting the food out at the LEAST opportune places like the bank. Yuck! But then he had three new molars all broken through when it was done so at least I know he was accomplishing something with the gross habit!

InactiveLOL – I can see M doing something like that too! Thanks again –
hopefully we’ll have some new teeth this week or next. So glad to hear
that Owen is doing well!June 27, 2006 at 5:43 pm #10683Anonymous
InactiveSounds like teething to me too Karen. She’s going to have a mouthful before you know it!
I noticed she likes the goldfish – those are a staple at our house and
in our diaper bag too. Let us know when those teeth pop
through!June 27, 2006 at 7:05 pm #10685Anonymous
InactiveYes Tricia – the baby goldfish were a hit, thanks for the tip! Will let you know – I think she’s working on a few at a time…

InactiveYup – definitely seems to be teething – chewing hand, stroller strap,
everything in site but barely eating or drinking today. But on a side
note, she did have a few “Just Blueberries” (dehydrated blueberries)
this afternoon! -
