InactiveCould anyone clue me in as to what the “Simply Thick” stuff is and how I would use it. As of right now, we use ALOT of baby cereal to thicken. Any other thickening ideas? THANK!

InactiveYeah, we have to use oatmeal too. Robbie seems to have a problem with anything that has rice in it. He throws it up profusely when it has rice in it!!!!

InactiveI have used simply thick. You can either use it to make the milk the consistancy of nectar or honey. It comes in little individual packages. Our OT at the feeding clinic gave me a few samples to try to see if Noah would improve his eating skills with thicker milk. He didnt like it too much, so I quit using it. I have a couple packets if you want to try it before buying some.

InactiveI would love to try it! No one ever mentioned it to me and I knew NOTHING about it until I joined this forum. Being on here makes me feel like our GI doc is letting us down!

InactiveIf you start neocate, then you should try the ST. It is a watery consistentcy compared to the alimentum. I use the nector consistentcy and a couple tbs. of oatmeal. We only had a problem with the ST at first because i think i thickened it too much. We had to gradually increase the consistentcy. We had less choking and gagging and then spitting up. Your ped. Gi could have some samples, or go to the website and order the starter kit just to see if you like it. Good luck! OH yeah, if you start neocate, be prepared for a couple weeks of constipation, might want to look at the past posts on neocate.

InactiveI agree about feeling let down by docs. I wouldnt know nearly as much as I do now if I hadnt joined this site.
I think I have 2 packets each of the honey and nectar consistancy. The honey is pretty thick, so you could actually only use half the packet per bottle instead. I think I have enough that you could make 6 bottles. You can atleast get an idea if you like it before you go out and buy it in bulk. If you want, I can mail them to you, or meet up since your only about 10 minutes away.

InactiveI don’t mean to hijack here, but my son is Robbie and he was born on 7/12! Our boys are super close in age and have the same name!
Good luck with everything, BTW. We thickened Robbie’s food until 4 months, when we discovered goat’s milk. It has changed our lives completely!March 14, 2006 at 4:25 pm #3833Anonymous
InactiveI’ve tried EVERYTHING, including goat’s milk (thought it might work because my husband’s cousin could only take goat’s milk – FRESH goat’s milk) and he wouldn’t come close to it! We tried lactaid, silk soy milk, goat’s milk, etc…. I even tried sweetening things with flavors. Some things, I don’t know if they would have worked or not because he wouldn’t have anything to do with them. We STILL have to put cereal in his bottles, at least the night time one. 5oz of Alimentum and 6 scoops (the Alimentum scooper) of oatmeal. It’s REALLY thick. But, at least we don’t worry he’s going to throw it up during the night. His system generally slows down at night anyway so he throws up less during the night.
Lisa – my e-mail is LanieOSU@yahoo.com if you want to e-mail me I can get my address to you or we could talk about meeting up! Didn’t you say you hadn’t tried the Neocate yet or was that someone else? If it was you, you’re welcome to try what we have here since Robbie wouldn’t take it. I’m going to order the flavor packets for it but I still doubt he’ll take it. Anyway, e-mail me and we’ll work something out!
