Every night for most of the night and sometimes during day naps my DS will thrash around in her sleep, ruminate and reswallow, gurgle and get congested! Does this sound like typical reflux or an intolerance problem? I’m on MSPI 6 days now and there has been definite improvement in other areas but she’s obviously still in distress. Anyone familiar with this?
I posted on your other thread but I did want to add that the congestion for my ds was a direct result of the intolerances. Once his system was clear the congestion went away completely (& he was so congested before TED that he could barely breathe @ night). The gurgling & swallowing though sounds reflux related.
my son does the same all night long…i have just switched him to nutramigen thinking it might be a milk allergy causing the problem, but the gagging and swallowing does sound like reflux. we went to a GI doctor last week and he said the grunting and wiggling all night usually is related to an intolerance.
My daughter did this really badly. It was a sign of the reflux. She still does it now, but it’s much improved. Sometimes reflux is the sign of intolerances, so hard to tease out the two.
My son (now 11 weeks old) was diagnaosed with GERD around the 6 week mark. He too would thrash around in his sleep, but not only in his sleep. This was also the case whenever he was placed flat on his back for changings etc. He was absolutley miserable most of the time. In the past few weeks he has been put on a liquid suspension of Losec (this only after the Zantac and failed) and I have angled both the mattress in his crib and changetable. In the mattress I have angeled it to about 30degrees and have placed rolled up blankets at either side of him and at the bottom (as to make a “u” shape) and then a fitted crib sheet over the whole thing. When placed in it his bum rests un the bottom of the “u” so he doesnt slide down the crib. Now, I have a very happy 11 week old – almost like a complete new baby. He smiles and coos and giggles now!
