I haven’t been here for a while. My DD is 20 months old now, still on Prevacid 7.5 mg a day. I’m so bummed, I’m having a really hard time getting her off it. On top of that she has food allergies. We’ve known about the milk and eggs and borderline allergic to soy. This past week we just found out about the corn and tomato allergy. I’m ready to pull my hair out! I’m so frustrated esp with the corn allergy. Anyone out there with corn allergic kids too? She had the Skin prick testing this time. I’m having a really hard time making food for her and she’s so picky.
So yesterday and today she’s vomited in the evening, her entire dinner and also the formula (Alimentum RTF) in the evening. This evening it was just her dinner but since yesterday she’s been refusing to eat. She was keeping the food in her mouth and won’t even swallow it, won’t chew. I was scratching my head wondering and then I started thinking that the reflux was the culprit again. 2 days ago I started using Prev capsules. I broke it open and sprinkled on some applesauce like her GI doc wanted me to do, instead of using the solutabs. So I’m thinking the capsules don’t work well on her?Sorry this is long…I need help. I want my DD off this meds. I just also realized so many meds(OTC and RX) have corn derivatives in them too and I’m really leary of compounded meds not working properly. I’veThanksTheaMay 26, 2009 at 2:32 pm #62680AnonymousInactivewhen my daughter started to refuse food it was because she had esophageal thrush. she would chew her food and spit it out, or she would just outright refuse to take a bite. she would nurse, i guess that was soothing to her.
while i was on the heavy duty meds for my MRSA in fection i developed oral thrush and i am sure esophageal thrush(because of the pain in my chest and how if flared my reflux so bad) i did not know that oral thrush could hurt so bad—and i have even had it before. i had no idea how much esophageal thrush could affect my reflux problems, either.June 17, 2009 at 2:41 pm #62986AnonymousInactiveJust wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Jackson is 21 mos and we are trying to wean him for the 4th time. It is so frustrating, but he still needs prevacid. His specialist said that it can take some GERD babies 2 years and beyond to outgrow it. 🙁
June 18, 2009 at 9:21 am #62992AnonymousInactiveYou are not alone. Powder Alimentum conatins corn. I believe the Ready To Feed doesn’t. Alsoo Alimentum is not 100% allergenic, so you might want to switch milk to one free of casein/lactose, gluten, corn, ect.
My DD is also allergic to corn, tomatoes and a a lot more foods. She acted this way and was on meds for a long time until you put her on a strict 4 days rotaion diet, hypoallergenic probiotics and digestive enzymes. Pretty much her tummy was hurting so she refused to eat ( i would too). I saw a completely diffrent girl 4 months into this regimen.Since she is 20 months old, i would try some allergy free foods like: Amaranth cereal fortified with flaxseed or, sunflower seeds (grind them in a coffe grinder and sprinkle it on the cereal), gluten free rice crispy, teff cereal, gluten free oats, coconut yogurt, Pacific rice milk (is gluten free), hemp milk, potato based milk, vegetables puree fortified with oil, etc. Homel Natural deli meats are gluten/wheat, casein/milk, nitrate and MSG free. I would give her that instead of others meat.Hope that helps.Hang in there, you can do this, you can do this!!September 7, 2009 at 12:10 am #63819AnonymousInactiveHi. Sorry took me a while to reply.
Kendramom – she drinks Alimentum RTF, it has no corn. There is nothing else she can drink right now.For a while we were avoiding corn derivatives but she’s fine now. We think we got the culprit. I took her off gluten and she’s been doing so much better! She actually gained about 2 lbs since then. I see you mentioned coconut yogurt. Any commercial yogurt has corn (not sure about the ones made w/ soy, I’m sure they do to) so I make my own yogurt.ThanksTheaSeptember 27, 2009 at 4:00 pm #64080AnonymousInactivei was going to suggest testing for celiac since untreated celiac can cause other food problems—but i see that you have eliminated gluten.
