Too Much Tylenol?

Andy is still teething……………I swear it feels like he’s been teething for over a year! Right now I’m just feeling like he has been needing Tylenol or Benedryl almost every night for the past two months. I feel guilty that I’m giving him too much medicine (not in dosage) but just in general. I know we aren’t supposed to compare children, but my older one never needed anything for teething and has hardly taken Tylenol in 4 years. Poor Andy has been taking some type of medicine since he was less than four weeks old. Does anyone else feel like this? Gosh, I hope that he doesn’t develop a “resistance” to medicine. It’s just been a crazy 16 months on this reflux roller coaster and was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way?

I often feel bad about giving too much Tylenol, but I try to remind myself that all kids are different. Every time my older one has the slightest temp, we’ve had to dose her aggressively on both Tylenol and advil at the same time, so she won’t have a seizure… sometimes she’s taking the stuff for weeks at a time. I don’t really like the idea of it, especially since they’re so small, but I think “you do what you have to do”. I try to remind myself that there are many adults who take tylenol every day for years for pain relief, that it’s a very safe drug, and that there is little chance of side effects and resistance. I understand your concern though… have you tried something a little more natural like the Hylands tablets? Oh, not sure if that’s an option… I see your son is MSPI.

I’ve often wondered the same thing, but then we’d have an awful night when we’d try to go without Tylenol and I’d decide that she really did need it after all. I don’t like the idea of constantly giving her medicine, but I like the idea of her being in pain even less!
