Tums

This is probably a dumb question and I should know this by now…

Now that I am supplementing Tums occasionally with Sarah…will it ONLY work for her if she has heartburn at the moment I give it to her?? Or will it act as a buffer for reflux for a while?

I ask because it doesn’t seem to have a soothing effect when I give it to her always. Yes, she’s teething so her whining could be from that…but I didn’t know if giving Tums would offer relief for a while or ONLY if she’s suffering at the time i give it to her???

i think its lasts for a couple hours. i remember that when i was pregnant and had to take them.

also.. i just noticed yesterday that shane molars are about to pop through! like i can see them totally. soo.. your right that sarah is teething and it REALLY could be from that!! maybe just try the mylanta and see if its reflux at the current moment.

I don’t think that’s a dumb question because I’ve wondered it myself. Sometimes if I know Kayleigh is going to have a problem with foods like her favorite Costco dog! I give her one before we order if i forget and 15 min after eating she’s hollering I give her one then. I don’t know which way works better because occasionally she’s needed one after already getting one prior to eating.

What kind of Tums are you using? We use the Extra Smooth dissolve.

We are using the smooth dissolve also. I crush it up in a little water so I can squirt it in. These new teeth are causing me all kinds of trouble b/c I just never know when it’s teething and when it’s reflux! Grrr!!! I generally give Sarah Tums now when she seems overly crabby…but a few mornings I gave her some before taking her to the sitter (as a preventative measure…if it even works that way). I’ll be curious to hear more replies so we can figure this out!
