today our sheets and stuff were in the wash and i did a quick diaper change on the bed-big mistake, he peed all over and on the mattress!!! is this going to leave a permament urine smell in the mattress?! what can i do to clean it? ugh 🙁

You might try scrubbing it with a damp sponge (maybe with a little laundy detergent?) and then soaking up as much moisture as you can with a dry towel or paper towels. That way you might soak up most of the pee along with the water. Just make sure you get it as dry as you can afterward.

ditto Bryces mum- we have something called febreeze in Aus that you spray on and it gets rid of the smell- it works to get rid of the dogs smell of the dogs mat so it would be a breeze with urine- another product that does similar is Glen 20. Don’t know if you have anything similar.

sometimes i clean a urine spot with a wet rag first, and then i shake baking soda onto the mattress to completely cover the wet spot–you might rub it in just a little bit—-and then leave the baking soda until it dries, and then vaccum it up.

This is why I keep all our mattresses encased in plastic mattress covers! If you don’t like the feel of the plastic under the sheet you can put a quilted mattress pad on top of the plastic cover and then you don’t even know it’s there. This has saved our mattresses from all kinds of things…..like my water breaking at 4 am when I went into labor with Myles. What a mess that was!!
