The Doctor gave Brielle Zegarid at my request. He prescribed 40 MG packets and all it says is 2-3 x pd as needed with no other instructions what so ever. I have no clue what to do 🙁

oh i thought you got the 20 mg packets?

well the 40 mg packets do not have enough buffer in them. you have to add mylanta or tums to each dose, otherwise the medicine will be degraded in the stomach as there is not enough buffer to protect it from the stomach acid.

what is her dosage? how many mg per day does she need?

dr phillips told us to mix one packet with 6.5 ML of water. i stored this in a plastic container. this makes a 4mg/ml concentration. depending on your dose, (if you are giving 3.5 ml or less at a time) you have to add extra buffer. let me know what her dose is…

i dont have much help to offer. but wanted to let you know that my doctor did the same thing! i finally talked the GI nurse into prescribing the zegerid…and the pharmacist said they had to order it so it would take a day. so than i went to pick it up and it had NO directions! no dosage ..NOTHING! so i asked the pharmacist how much and HOW to give it..and he said he didnt really know! that they dont deal with it much.. to ask my doctor.

anyhow, just saying the same thing happened to me..and i guess its still pretty new out there and its crazy that there arent clearer instructions on giving it!

Thanks Natalia. I wrote Doctor Philips and also contacted the pharmacy before I opened the 40mg packets. Apperently, this drug is so unknown to him, that he didnt even know they made 20mg packets and just auto filled it with 40mg packets. So, that being said I requested the 20mg packets.

I asked Dr. Philips how to dose her and provided her age and weight.

Shanesmom, apperently my doctor nor pharmacist is much more help than yours were 😛
