InactiveHey all,
I just had a quick question. I was going back and forth whether or not to post but it was driving me CRAZY so I did
PPIs just help with pain and not spit up right? I’ve taken in sooooooo much info about reflux over the last two months I don’t remember. Kate’s always been a happy spitter but recently she’s been spitting up all the way up untill her next feed. She just started Zegerid(yay!)but I wasn’t sure if that had anything to do with it. She’s not in pain I don’t think it’s just always dripping out of her mouth. Good weight gain. To worry or not to worry? Thanks a bunch!!!

InactiveBen actually started spitting more once we were on Zegerid too. The only thing I could figure out was that the medicine made him more comfortable, so he didn’t fight the spit up as much and it just came shooting out? Does that even make sense? It did to me, for some reason.. probably because my daughter had horrible silent reflux, hardly ever spit up BUT she was undermedicated and suffered from poor weight gain. I would much rather it this way… spit up, but healthy weight gain. One less thing to worry about.

InactiveI’ve heard that PPIs can delay gastric emptying in some babies which causes them to spit up more because their tummies don’t empty as quickly… not sure if that’s the issue with Kate. I hope it doesn’t get too out of hand! 🙂

InactiveCooper has always spit, now more than usual but that is b/c he is teething…. but now he smiles when he spits which makes me know he isn’t in pain.

InactiveClaire,
I definitely noticed Caden spitting up more when he was on Prevacid. He was mostly a silent refluxer before starting Prevacid, but once he was on that, he started actually spitting up. Not sure why, though.I’m so glad the Zegerid is helping Kate!June 29, 2007 at 9:36 am #38257Anonymous
InactiveI’ve read that often here, that once a baby is on a PPI and feeling better, they start spitting up more either because it doesn’t hurt anymore so they don’t swallow it back down, or due to some delayed gastric emptying due to the PPI.
