InactiveOh my gosh!!! I can’t believe he’s been walking for so long! Hailey didn’t even really start crawling until 11 months (she was a bum shuffler) so I don’t expect her to walk any time soon. She’s just now working on standing unassisted.

InactiveMy dr said that there is a big difference between boys and girls physically. He said most girls are content to be held alot and not be mobile and most boys are quite the opposite!

InactiveThat’s certainly the case with Hailey. Sarah never wanted to be held, but was too heavy to get up and go. You must have your hands full with him running around everywhere. But it’s so cute when they start to walk!!!

InactiveHe is into everything but he is so skinny that he looks silly walking-This comment has been made by a few different people!

InactiveI hate it when people say such insensitive things!! It’s great that he’s walking. As for being skinny, I was painfully skinny growing up. People used to make fun of me all the time, and I used to wish that they would just keep their mouths shut. My niece was only 17.5 pounds at 11.5 months. She started walking at 10.5 months. It’s interesting b/c I never looked at her and thought that she was skinny, and no one ever suggested that she was underweight. Sometimes I wonder why people like to make comments about our kids with reflux… either they’re too skinny or they’re fine because they “look fat”.

InactiveLori – how is Hailey feeling today? I hope she is feeling better and you can get some rest. Brian sneeze non-stop today, I am really afraid he will get a cold.
To answer your question from another post, his ST thinks Brian’s speech is still not age appropriate, so hopefully she can help with that.
I am planing on cutting back on puree and offer Brian more variety of table food soon (after he gain back the wt.). I like your approach: offer 4-5 choices each meal, you must spend a lot of time to prepare her meal, it is so time consuming to cook for us then for him, so how do you manage to cook so many things each meal for Hailey and still have time to cook for whole family? How do you cook veggie and meat to make it soft? Thank you.

InactiveThanks for asking about Hailey, Sharon. Unfortunately since she’s been sick she’s stopped eating solids. She’s back down to about 12 oz of formula a day, but even that’s a struggle. She’s lost 4 oz. It’s really disheartening, but I hope that things will pick up again when she’s feeling well. I’m just scared that it might not because she’s just sitting there when you put the food in front of her. She won’t eat it, and then eventually she just throws it all on the floor. I could cry. It’s really hard for me to resist the temptation to keep bringing out more things from the fridge to offer her because she’s not taking anything, though I do try not to (but often cave int).
I thought that I remember reading that Brian was eating some table foods (a while back)- things like tofu, chicken, salmon? How was he taking those- pureed, or was he feeding it to himself?
Anyhow to answer some of your questions… It really doesn’t take very long to prepare dinner. I don’t have a lot of time to make it and watch the kids, so I keep it simple. Also because she takes such SMALL amounts, it’s not a lot to prepare, but it is a lot of waste. I try to give her modified versions of what we’re eating already. For example, if we’re having fish, then I’ll tear off a few pieces for her, and cut it up into very small pieces. Fish is already very soft. For chicken, we do some on the barbeque- and it’s very juicy and soft, or I give her from the stirfry dishes I make. I think the key is that the pieces are VERY thin and very small so they don’t need much chewing. But I swear that about 4 pieces make up the size of a penny- that’s how little volume she’s taking in. For veggies, I do a lot of frozen veggies for her. They get really soft quickly and they’er easy to prepare. You can boil them up and keep them in the fridge, or if you’re not afraid to microwave them then that’s fast too. One night a week I boil carrots and they last for two nights. We all eat them. I cut up tiny bits of cheese and wrap them up and keep them in the fridge. When we have pasta, I cut some up for her. So i guess really I’m just offering mostly what we’re eating, but then I add a few extra things for her to her plate. But I’m just offering it- That doesn’t mean that she’s eating it! Especially now where we seem to be back to square one. Not sure if anyone else has any suggestions. Is Brian over the stomach bug?

InactiveLori, I was just going to congratulate you all on Hailey’s success…. I’m sure she will get over this soon! I’m also sure she would be happy living off of mcdonalds icecream… I would! Sounds like you described Ryann in your post. I waste so much food too.. she only takes a few puffs during the day and a bite of whatever I am eating and that is it. I buy baby food everytime I am at the grocery store just by habit, and hoping she will figure out it is food like her milk. I have a full pantry now. Guess I will take it to the food pantry so some baby can use it. They will get over this one day and enjoy food! 22 pounds! that is amazing!

InactiveLori – Thank you for your reply. Brian is over the stomach flu already. Is Hailey feeling better now?
I spend 1/2 -1 hr every morning cooking for Brian, because he can’t handle the food we eat, and he is so picky (doesn’t like carrots, chesse, bread, cottage cheese, jello, watermelon, peas), so I need to cook special for him. He gets bored very quickly too, I really don’t know what else to offer him anymore.

InactiveGlad to hear he’s better, Sharon. Hailey is still sick, very runny nose and very irritable. Refusing feeds and meds today, so I’m very worried. Only took 10oz of formula and threw everything else on the floor. Hailey in general also is very fussy and I don’t know what to do anymore either. I’m going to ask our feeding therapist on wednesday so I’ll let you know if I find out anything. She’s just fussing at meal times. It’s awful! I just want to scream today.
Do you give Brian the solutabs? If so how do you give them to him? Do you have trouble timing his meal after.

InactiveLori – I am sorry to hear that Hailey is still sick, are you planing to bring her to MD?
Yes, I give Brian solutabs, I dissolve it in some water and use syringe to give him. I give him 30 min before lunch and dinner, and I do not have trouble timing it, because he is not very eager to eat anyway.

InactiveLori,
Sorry to hear that Hailey is still sick. I was hoping she’d be feeling better today and would be eating for you. Congestion is the worst. It seems like there really is nothing you can do to make it improve. Nothing ever worked for my kids when it came to giving them relief. It basically always had to run its course.
I hope her eating improves for you soon!
