InactiveWe just went to his 15 month checkup. We weighed in at 22lbs 3oz and is 31 1/4inches tall. For now they are just watching his weight b/c he is a bit skinny but we feel it is not a big deal. He is average height. Isaac has been waking up screaming in the middle of the night or from a nap for a couple of weeks. We took him in after the first 2 days and they found nothing wrong. Now the dr thinks that Isaac is having allergy issues and he is just really uncomfortable at night from it. He put Isaac on zyrtec and we will try this for 2 weeks and see if it helps. If it doesn’t help we may have to put him back on reflux medicine or take him in for testing for other things that would cause this. If all else fails he said it may be night terrors

The good news with us now is that he is eating 2 full meals a day! We are now working towards getting him to eat a 3rd meal and a snack each day. Really if Isaac had it his way he would just drink milk all day!
He is running everywhere and says lots of words NO being his favorite thing to say!

InactiveGlad to hear he is eating well and drinking lots of milk.

Sorry about the night wakings. Eliana started having night terrors around 15 months of age. How often does he wake up? Once per night or more? Does he seem out of it like he’s not really awake, but screaming like he’s scared? That’s how it was with Eliana. She’d be screaming but I could tell she wasn’t fully awake. She still has nightmares and wakes up frequently but as she’s getting older she’s more able to calm herself and go back to sleep on her own. Still, there are nights she screams in terror and we have to go in and reassure her.

InactiveChristine-He has been waking up around 3 times a night. He is awake for the most part and will have his eyes open. He does this at naptime too so really it just doesn’t make sense to me at all. Since he has been on zyrtec for 2 days now he has not woken up in the middle of the night but I think that has to do with it making him so drowsy.

InactiveGood to hear from you Sarah! Sounds like Isaac is doing well – hope the
Zyrtec continues to help and you figure that situation out. Keep us posted.

InactiveHmmm….that doesn’t really sound like night terrors. When Ellie woke from night terrors she’s be wide-eyed and screaming, but kind of in a daze and not fully awake.
Maybe teething? Myles is cutting molars and not sleeping very well either.
Ellie started waking from allergies a few months ago and Zyrtec has helped her.
It’s always something isn’t it? I hope you get it figured out and worked out soon.

InactiveSarah,
What made the doc think allergies? I’ve often wondered this with Hailey… she has many nightwakings, often writhes around, moans etc. When I mentioned to her GI he poo-pooed me…. “no, if was allergies we’d see other symptoms…it would show up here, or there, or wherever…” . Well, of course I’ve done my reading and know better, but he wouldn’t agree.
I really wonder. Then when I asked about trying an allergy med to see if it helped the sleep, then we would know, he said he wouldn’t be surprised if it helped the sleep because it makes them so drowsy. He wouldn’t give us anything in the end.
Any advice?

InactiveLori,
When Ellie was waking from allergies she was sneezing and coughing. I thought it was a cold, but since it never went away we began to think allergies. The Zyrtec has stopped most of her symptoms….but she still wakes with nightmares a few nights per week.

InactiveChristine-Isaac is done with teething
So it is not even a possibility! I am really just clueless at this point.Lori-The dr said that since Isaac sneezes alot, always has a slight cough, and a on again off again runny nose then allergies are probably to blame. Also with me having sever allergies the dr said that it would be odd if he didn’t have them. Isaac also has eczema which is tied in with allergies. He said that at night that Isaac may not be able to sleep b/c of the congestion or headache from allergies. We started with a low dose of zyrtec and if needed we can double his dose after 2 weeks. I really felt like this was what was wrong with him! It was just like the feeling I got when I knew he had reflux-all of the signs were there. We tried claritin about 3 months ago and it didn’t help at all but from what I have heard claritin is on the low end of allergy medicines. Our ped gi never thought allergies could be a problem either! I just talked to his regular ped b/c I know that is not their area of expertise! lol

InactiveSarah,
That’s how Ellie was…lots of sneezing, off and on runny nose, and some coughing at night. She’d wake up crying and I think it’s because her nose was stuffy and she couldn’t fall back to sleep. After a few days on Zyrtec she was fine and has been since. I hope it works for Isaac, too.

InactiveWell at this point my dh is forgetting to give him zyrtec when I am not there. I have been working at night 3 nights a week. I just want dhe to start remembering or else we won’t know if it works or not.

Inactivehmm, very interesting about the Zyrtec. We actually got a script and some samples for it from the ENT (I told them how he always has a runny nose and wakes up rubbing his eyes and nose all the time). We tried it for a few days but could not tell if it helped or not so we quit giving it but maybe we should try again. Seth is waking up at night again too. I still can not tell for sure if it is reflux, teething, night terrors or what.
He also has another daycare cold. UGH. I just hated for him to be on one more med. if he really did not need it. I do take Zyrtec myself even though I don’t know if you would say I have allergies or not. It has helped me a LOT. I was getting repeat sinus infections and have not had one since I started taking it. It definitely makes you drowsy!! -
