InactiveThese babies!
I’m in the same boat with Myles, and I went through it with Ellie. I think it’ll get better for both of us in the coming months. I’m going to try some finger foods tonight with Myles and see how it goes. Keep us posted on Marisa.

InactiveThanks for the update Karen. I was wondering how things were going with you guys. Glad to hear that she’s doing well overall. Our feeding therapist always told me that many refluxers turn out to be slow to accept new textures, or fussy eaters, but that’s not outside the norm. Hope that things continue to improve and get easier.

InactiveSorry for delay Karen. I just put a tiny bit of bsugar in the water and steam them. Ian used to hate carrots and now they’re a favorite of chicken! It did take a lot of repetition though. Maybe let her give you a bite then you give her one? Like Christine’s idea-Ian always wants what I’m eating. Are eating times generally fun for her (other then the diversity?)? Maybe toys or music/singing?
Sounds soooo cute with the pointing!

InactiveThanks Lori and Tracy. Tracy – the problem with the carrots is the way they
feel. I did try the brown sugar but she tried twice to pick them up – they
were too slippery and slimey and then she wouldn’t try again.
Lori – how are you guys doing?

InactiveOne thought from therapist – have you tried the mesh?? We are giving it to Matthew to play with with nothing inside but soon we are going to start putting in really ripe mango (he loves that) and it is slippery but therapist said that the mesh gives them some control…

InactiveFirst I steam the baby carrots, then I cut them into tiny bites (I’m way paranoid about him choking on them. So they actually don’t get slimy or slippery. They’re still a little crunchy on the outside. Maybe let them cool a bit before serving?
Also, if you don’t want to go Early Intervention route – how about a day visit to St. josephs to see Dr. Eicher? They could take a look at her rejections and give you some pointers? We still go once a month and are really happy (much more beneficial for us then EI)-you see the changes for Ian. Just to get some tips? Also, insurance covers it….just a thought.

InactiveKaren ~ Emma is actually a very happy baby. I call her goofy b/c she is always smiling and making funny faces. Reading through the posts sounds so much like Emma. I think she isn’t eating b/c she knows she has the control and she just doesn’t want to. She is very interested in what we are eating but she has to look at it first, if it looks like something she wants or something she knows she likes she will eat it with no problems. If she doesn’t know what it is she will either totally walk away or touch it. If she touches it and decides she wants to try it, she will put it in her mouth and usually take it right back out. Fruits is the only thing she gags on usually. I do not know one single person going through what I go through. None of my family or my friends or there kids have eating issues, they all eat everything just fine. They used to say things but for some reason I don’t care what they have to say and they finally got the hint that I didn’t care. I have a way of making people aware of how I feel without actually saying anything, I don’t know how but I really like it!! I guess I just know in time she will be fine and eating everything she is supposed to. Good luck!!

InactiveChristine ~ I am totally jealous. I have definetly tried the “This is for mommy” trick or “mom is going to cry” trick and Emma could care less. She will laugh and walk off, totally to smart for her own good!!!!!!!!!!!!

InactiveBrandy – I agree, Marisa and Emma do sound a lot alike!
So I tried the steamed carrots last night. Marisa did try one and didn’t seem
to hate it but she still had a hard time picking it up and didn’t love the
texture (still a little slimey and slippery). I’ll try it again today with cut up
whole carrots instead of baby carrots – for some reason the baby carrots
always seem to start out “wetter”.
