Harry will be having his Upper GI done tomorrow morning. I’m looking forward to getting it over with and getting assurance that he doesnt have anything physically wrong with him. I’m a little nervous because he’s not as “go with the flow” as Dagney was, and denying him his feeding just before the test may be painful for all of us! (Dagney just slept the whole time and didnt seem to bothered with it when we did hers, but she was about 5-6 weeks older than Harry is now) He normally eats every 2-3 hours, and the test is at 9:30…which would mean he could have his middle of the night bottle, but nothing after that, or at least nothing after 5:30ish (does this sound right to anyone else who’s done it?). I tried moving it to 10:30, so i could wake him & feed him around 6 & still be in a safe time range, but they didnt have the appt available. I really want to get it done, but I’m considering moving it to Monday when they do have a 10:30 appt. If I remember correctly, they have the results right away, so it wouldn’t be that huge a difference, and we’re not going to the GI until the 5th again, so i’m fairly certain that nothing would change in his treatment before then anyway…
Anyway, any good thoughts coming our way would be appreciated! Thanks!September 24, 2009 at 2:45 pm #64039AnonymousInactiveI really think the only reason they tell you to wait is to ensure that he will take the barium. If the appt is at 9:30 then I would say not to feed him after 6:30… and if it is anything like ours, you will probably be waiting until 10 so I bet 6:30 and you would be safe.

September 25, 2009 at 11:18 am #64058AnonymousInactiveI agree w/ Beth – I would feed @ 6:30.
3 hrs was our cut-off. Evan was 4 weeks old. He was on breastmilk though so I don’t know if that makes a difference (I know it did for his endoscopy/colonoscopy @ 10 weeks old) but either way you will probably be waiting until 10ish before they actually give the barium, etc (after all the waiting & prep).
I will say that we didn’t get any results right away. They wouldn’t tell us anything & we had to wait for GI to call w/ results. Hopefully not the case w/ you though!
Good luck & keep us posted.
P.S. I just realized that your appt is this morning so my post is useless ;). But I’ll keep it for anyone looking through threads-lol.
September 25, 2009 at 1:48 pm #64061AnonymousInactiveThanks ladies! I will give it at least 3 hours so he’s hungry. We ended up postponing it until Wednesday so that my husband can be there too. I will keep you all posted of the results.
