InactiveOkay, I’ll make this short and sweet. Or as short as possilbe!
Went to ER yesterday with searing pelvic/back pain. They said UTI / kidney infection. Gave me IV antibiotics and fluids and morphine and toradol. I was in heaven b/c it knocked me out. The meds have been working, but I’m scared to death to get another. Never had this happen before this bad.Anyone had this problem post children? I have an IUD and I’m making an appt for DH to get the big V cause I’m taking this thing out. I think it may be the cause of some of it.It also happened post intimate times….. Sorry, TMI, but we had both showered etc and I can’t think of what else to do to keep this from happening, but any thoughts would be invited. I never want to go through that again! I would rather give birth 10 times over!!!! This went on for over a week b/f I went somewhere b/c I could hardly walk anymore. That was my fault, but it kind of came and went b/f it got really bad and I couldn’t take it anymore.Anyway, I know UTI’s are common among women, but I had only had minor one before nothing like this and I don’t want to experience it again! And I’m banning any intamacy for awhile which will not go over well with DH, but oh well.

InactiveErica, I used to get these post sex too, and the doctor I saw suggested … making sure you pee afterward and then using a small dab of antibiotic ointment you know, down there.

InactiveOh boy, I used to get UTI’s almost everytime by my husband (when he was my boyfriend) and I had sex. It was awful! It doesn’t matter how clean you are, there are always bacteria looming from your colon/rectum that are waiting to migrate up into either your vagina or urethra. When you have sex, these bacteria get pushed into these parts, and voila – infection! I know far too much about UTI’s because I had so many. I even used to take a low dose of antibiotics right after sex (50 mg) just to prevent them. However, as Naomi said, if you urinate direclty before and directly after you should prevent them. I also try to drink a lot of water the day after to keep flushing out my system. Peeing right after is not the most romatic thing or the best if you’re trying to get pregant, but it really works! You’re right though, the IUD could also be a factor! Hope you’re back to yourself soon and hope you don’t get a yeast infection! UGH!!!!! RLM4262007-08-04 17:18:19

InactiveOh, the dreaded UTI.
Erica, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this!! I’ve only had one and that was right after I gave birth. I can totally relate to the not being able to walk part b/c mine was sooooo bad. It was right in the midst of beginning to bf(overwhelming enough!) and I cried every time I peed. Not kidding
I remember hobbling over to my neighbor’s house to borrow her electric pump b/c I was so overwhlemed with everything, I needed an out if I was hysterical. Yuck. I hope someone has something great to say and I hope you get this figured out so you NEVER have to have one again!! I’m crossing my fingers for both of us

InactiveI went through a stage where I had them almost monthly. I found that the best thing for me was drinking tons of water on a regular basis and trying to use the bathroom real consistently. If I had a couple of days when I slipped on my water intake, boom, UTI. They really are awful. I hope that you’re feeling better soon.

InactiveI was also going to suggest drinking lots of water and also drinking cranberry juice really helps. I hope you get feeling better!
