UUGGGGH! Telemarketers

The last time a telemarketer called when my husband answered, they asked to talk to the lady of the house. My husband said “She died” and they hung up on him! Guess they didn’t know what to say…

I know that I’m bad but when they call, I just pretend I don’t speak English. Most of the time I just say “please, take me off your calling list”. I must admit that since I registered for the “do not call” list, I haven’t gotten calls yet (knock on wood). How long does that work for? I thought it was 5 years.

We are also on the do not call list and it has eliminated almost all of the calls. For the charities, I tell them I do not contribute anything over the phone but if they will mail me some literature, I will be happy to review it and then contribute if I think it is worthy. I don’t think anyone has actually ever sent me anything! I hate to be this way but I have had some friends that did audit work on some of the smaller so called charities and sadly (but not always!) does the money go for the cause they are pitching. I have heard though that the big ones (United Way, March of Dimes) check out though but I do not think they do cold calls.

Tiffany is right. If you ask the caller, by law, they have to tell you what percentage is going to the charity. Most times it is a very small percent and the majority goes to the caller as his fee…….
