InactiveAidan is VERY sick. it’s killing me because there isn’t anything I can do about it. His ears are KILLING him, he hits himself in the head and screams non-stop. His reflux is awful (the dr said it would probably stabilize and go away after the ears are clear and the tubes are in). The Omnicef isn’t working, and there’s nothing else that has worked with him either, so not much can be done in the antibiotic department. I can’t give him Motrin b/c of his surgery (bleeding risks etc etc), tylenol doesn’t do crap. I’ve tried Benadryl, all it does is make him sleepy. (He has a cold on top of all this which I’m sure is making the ears and reflux about 100 times worse than it already is). He won’t much just his favorite foods, and not even a lot. He will drink formula, so that’s pretty much where he’s getting all his calories/nurishment from…..I just pray that when the tubes are in, the ear infection will go away, and the fluid will drain properly….

InactiveHi! I haven’t posted in a while, but my son name is Aiden, as well, just with an en. I am sorry he is not feeling well. Poor little guy and poor Mommy. I hope he feels better soon.

InactiveI’m so sorry to hear about Aidan, When are they doing the ear surgery? Can he have an antiboitic shot in the meantime to help fight the infection? Alexis use to get them all the time before she had her tubes and Taylor has had 1 round of the Rocephin shot as well for her ear infection since the oral antibotics were not working very well.

InactiveI’m sorry to hear how much pain he is in! Hailey also hits her head and pulls her ears and pulls her hair out and it’s awful to watch. I’m sure the tubes will be a big relief for him. Can you give him an antihistamine like benadryl, in the meantime. When I had eustacian tube dysfunction my doc told me that antihistamines can help dry up the fluid so that the ear can drain. Hang in there… the surgery isn’t far off.

That poor sweet baby. This is what I’d do if it were Myles. I’d call my his doctor and insist on one of two things…..1). they move up his surgery date because he’s in so much pain, (all hospitals and surgeons have time built into their schedules for emergencies, so it IS possible to get him in sooner. Or 2). you get a script for tylenol with codeine for him to give him some relief until his surgery date. They do make it for babies and it does work very well. My girls both took it for a short time for a painful condition and it helped take the edge off the pain.
I’ll say a prayer for him.

InactivePoor little guy.

Something we tried with Isaac when he was a baby was warm garlic oil. It seemed to help the pain. You just put some minced garlic into some olive oil and warm it up (just be VERY careful that it’s not hot) and use a small dropper to put a few drops in each ear every few hours. Might be worth a try. Although if the pain’s that severe it might not help.
If he’ll let you, a warm heating pad (low setting) against his ears might help.Tylenol cold seems to work well when my kids have an earache. I think it kind of helps drain some of the fluid as well as help the pain. I know when I have an earache I always have to take an antihistamine and a pain reliever.
Well, I hope this surgery is the answer and will help him. I’ll keep little Aidan & you in my prayers also.

InactiveOh no!! Isn’t his big birthday party tomorrow? I was thinking tomorrow was party day for a lot of families on here. Doesn’t it always work that way that they get sick before an event.

I hope he feels better soooooooooooooon! Hang in there!

InactiveYep party time is at 3, but he’s taking a LONG nap right now so I hope that makes him feel better. I was thinking about giving the doc a call, but his pre-op is Monday at 1:15, so I figured I could wait til then and the surgery is wed. He had the rocephin (sp?) shots before this LONG onmicef run, 2 doses 3 days apart and even THEY didn’t clear it up completely (I’m seriously considering asking if he has developed a staph infection, a friend of mine’s son had one that lasted forever). The benadryl works pretty well to dry him up, but I wasn’t sure I could give it along with a cough medicine (I bought triaminic cough and cold)?
He also just had his immunizations on the 6th so I THINK that’s also a factor, he usually gets grumpy and irritated for a few days after, and I had forgotten about that.
Babies are SO resiliant though even though I know he’s hurting, during the day he’s still happy a lot of the time (granted he’s on enough medicine to knok a COW out) nigth is different though. He actually coughed so hard he spit up half his bottle in his crib, he has never done that before.
Anyway, sorry for the long rambling post, I’m just stressed that we have a party to host and there are going to be a few little kids there and I don’t want my friends to be angry that Aidan is around their kids when he is sick (couldn’t cancel it, the cold came on too soon) ALthough they can’t catch ear infections (can they????). Luckily my nephews are sick too (same cold) and they’re coming so if any of the other kids get sick I’ll blame it on them
!Ty guys for thinking about him and praying for him, I always keep all the little ones on here in my prayers, it’s so sad that babies have to have it so hard when they are so young!!!!!

InactiveI hope he takes a good nap and feels well enough to enjoy his party. Like you said, babies sure are resilient. Myles is pooping out everything he eats or drinks due to an intestinal virus, but he’s still smiling and playing with his toys. Mommy and daddy took turns being laid out in bed all day from the same bug. Babies are amazing!
I’ll keep Aidan in my prayers throughout these next few days.

InactiveEnjoy the party! Hope it’s not a staph infection- those can be very pesky to treat. I didn’t know you can get them in your ears.

InactiveWow. I hope it’s not a staph infection too! My husband had one that took seven years to get rid of (obviously an extreme case). I didn’t know you could get them in your ears either.
