InactiveI am new to the forum and posted a few weeks back about my son and his reflux and his little amount of medicine he takes (5ml daily of Prilosec.) Anyhow, he had surgery 2 weeks ago to correct a cleft lip and we all thought that he would be a better feeder etc. and vomit less. Well that is not so…starting last night he is not keeping anything down and vomiting out yellow (bile perhaps?) I am very angry about this. I met with his peditrician again last night and demanded he be put on a feeding tube as he hasnt gained weight in over a month. They agreed something needs to be done but wants to recheck him with an upper GI (my suggestion) to rule out pyloric stenosis as he was tested for it back about 2 months. He is a triplet and was born 2 months early so my thought was maybe they tested to soon for it. So they agree to the test but say he cannot have it until next monday. To me this is unacceptable. He is not eating or keeping anything down. I am so frustrated and scared. He has been through so damn much lately and I really think this office thinks I am joking about his reflux etc. I brought the bottle there with me and (attempted) to feed him in front of them to show them the struggle I have 6 times a day with him. They were so shocked and I think finally get it… let’s hope.
So my question is if your child had pyloric stenosis did they keep any food down ever? My son does keep some down but most of the time projectile vomits. As I am told acid meds will not stop the vomiting.
I am in desperate need of help.July 3, 2007 at 1:51 pm #38489Anonymous
InactiveNeither of my girls had pyloric stenosis, but one of my co-workers had a child with it. Her son did occasionally keep food down, but projectile vomitted most of the time, as you describe. I hope that you are able to find answers soon.

InactiveMy son doesn’t have pyloric stenosis, but he does have delayed gastric emptying (which is one symptom of PS) and he has always vomited a lot. It helped his vomiting a lot once he was on medicine for the DGE. And Bryce has spit up that yellow bile before too… usually when he doesn’t have a whole lot in his tummy when he vomits. Good luck with the test on Monday. I hope you can get some answers and some help for your son.

InactiveI am pretty sure with PS that they pretty much vomit almost if not all of what they take in. Luckly if he does have that they can do surgery and he should be fine from then on out. I wish you luck on Monday.

InactiveSorry that your son is having such a hard time now. My dd didn’t have pyloric stenosis either, so I’m not too sure. She has vomitted up bile (bright yellow/green) when her stomach is empty but she’s still retching. If you’re really worried you can always take him to the ER and see if they can do the test faster as an inpatient. I know it’s not the best scenario, but if you’re desperate.

InactiveI don’t know anything about PS but I just wanted you to know how sorry I am that you’re going through this with your baby. Truly the toughest thing in the world to not be able to feed your baby and watch them struggle to do something so simple. I hope his doctors are proactive about this and kuddos to you for being persistent and pushy!
I’ll be praying for you guys

InactiveMy son did not have Pyloric Stenosis, but it sure seemed like he did. He was a huge puker and he threw up all day most days. He had reflux and DGE. He was gaining weight though, so my situation doesn’t really compare to your’s but I wanted to mention it because some reflux babies throw up alot and they don’t have Pyloric Stenosis. It’s sometimes due to DGE which can be treated with medicaitons.
I agree with you that he should be tested, and I’m sorry you have to wait so long. Maybe Lori’s idea of taking him to the ER would be your best option at this point.Good luck. I hope you find answers soon.July 9, 2007 at 4:11 pm #38891Anonymous
Inactivemy daughter threw up all day long. she could not keep enough down to gain weight and was failure to thrive. she ended up having a fundo done just before she turned 10 months old. she had a hiatal hernia—not particularly common in infants. most reflux babies don’t need a fundo, either. where your son is a preemie with a cleft lip, i would thing that either of these things could be a little more likely for him—but that is just me guessing.
i don’t know what the yellow vomit is—but i don’t think it is likely to be bile unless he has some sort of intestinal problem. -
