InactiveI have a question. This is not every morning – but most. Christian wakes up and seems to be really urpy. This morning he sits up and vomits all over me. He even threw up food from last nights dinner (around 8pm).
I know since he is tube fed there is always stuff in his tummy but it shouldn’t be a lot. He is fed at just over 1.5 oz per hour and it shuts off 1/2 hour before he wakes up.Does anybody have any idea why he seems to be so vomit prone first thing in the morning? It is nasty stuff too. How about the throwing up food from 8pm the night before at 7am the next morning? Thanks.June 29, 2007 at 2:54 pm #38288Anonymous
InactiveI really am not sure but has he ever been tested for delayed gastric emptying? Since there is still stuff from almost 12hrs ago that could be something to think about. Also how digested was it? I know that is gross but it would help to figure things out. Has he been sick recently? I am just throwing out the first things that come to my mind. Good Luck.

InactiveWhen Christian was first tested it showed his pyloric valve was spasming causing a delay in emptying – no testing has been done since.
Yes he has been sick – but his last illness was over 2 weeks ago. He usually vomits during illness – but not so often after the antibiotics round is over. And the nasty – it was full on bites of salami from the nite before. It looked just as it did going in. What does that mean?I am planning on bringing it all up when we see our new GI in a couple of weeks – I thought I would run it by you gals first.Thanks.July 1, 2007 at 9:34 pm #38374Anonymous
InactiveMy son wakes up very gaggy every morning, and doesn’t do much of that throughout the rest of the day. I, too, wondered why in the mornings? I don’t have an answer, but just wanted to let you know you’re not alone. Last week he threw up right when I picked him up (it had been a couple hours since I bf him). And he’s a silent refluxer, so for him to vomit was a complete surprise (no temperature and he didn’t end up sick). He just continued to gag for 20 min or so and has gagged every morning since (I think I just hadn’t noticed it before). Interesting! Hopefully one of us will find an answer and share! 🙂

InactiveHi Laura
Are you doing all night continuous feeds and nothing during the day? Matthew significantly improved when he was able to rest his gut at night… Susan (smirna) had some great posts about the need for the gut to rest at night (don;t remember the hours but something like from 1am to 5am or something??)… are you able to swithc some of the feedings to the day? We did this slowly by feeding after oral eating…Let us know how the GI stuff goes… you have postponed Happy Mealtimes right?July 3, 2007 at 1:31 pm #38485Anonymous
InactiveWe are running continuous from 10pm – 6:30am. Christian is eating awesome during the day up to 3 meals and 2 snacks. His meals are still not great calories. Our st, behavior, and ot all think that feeding him during the day would be more harmful to our progress than just the night feeds. – Does that make sense? He is just too smart and would regress if he new he could get tubey if he stopped working.
We are not doing Happy Mealtimes – their approach is completely opposite of the behavior plan we are taking right now. We will look at another program that is more behavior oriented in a few years if we have not made enough progress.

InactiveI understand… so many approaches to this… for us, everyone pushed to get rid of night feeds as soon as he would get more volume during the day… so we worked on tolerating volume after oral feeds…
There is no correct answer… so many things happened for matthew that i really have no idea how we went about it — change in meds, no night feedings, started sleeping through the night, started periactin…Yes, Happy Meatimes just sounded like intensive speech therapy vs any behavioral approach…July 3, 2007 at 3:21 pm #38493Anonymous
InactiveI have been pushing for the reducing of night feeds for a while. I am hoping the new GI will have a fresh perspective. We are also looking into the allergy aspect too, we have that appt on Friday.
They really want him in the 25% before we can change feeding patterns. Unless the new GI has a different approach. -
