InactiveI have had to put Alana back on Pepti Junior. I never had any trouble with her drinking it before, but now…after two weeks on a normal formula…she is fighting the bottle. She has gone from taking 200mls of a normal formula to 120mls of PEpti Junior. I don’t want to do normal formula/pepti mix at this stage so anyone got any ideas on how to disguise the taste. I have thought of brown sugar…Any ideas?

Inactiveyeah, at her age her taste buds have matured a little more now so she knows what tastes good and what tastes bad. elemental formulas are supposed to be absolutely nasty, though my son took neocate no prob because i had introduced it at such a young age.
hey if you got to do brown sugar, then do it. if thats what will get her to eat. it can have a laxative effect, so watch for that.December 7, 2006 at 12:55 am #19751Anonymous
InactiveI spoke to my Maternal Child and Health Nurse- her solution- she will get used to it!!!
Yeh, thats my reluctance with the brown sugar. I read somewhere about adding pureed food- she is almost ready for solids. Anyone any experience?

Inactivethats not necessarily true. there are babies that would NOT drink the formula, so they ended up being tube fed.
and some moms put baby banana food in the formula to mask the taste.

InactiveYeh, well I haven’t been overly impressed with her in general- over here each region has one and you don’t get a whole lot of choice. I just added her response to the lame ones I had got on other issues (including when I noticed vaginal discharge on Alana’s nappy she said- oh some babies have that!!!- ended up she had a UTI!!!). I’ll give it a couple of more days and then maybe go the banana food. She can’t be hungry cause she is still sleeping OK.

InactiveHi Therese
Our dietician told us to use a small amount of golden syrup to flavour formula. I have also heard of people using strawberry quik as well, but Im not too sure how good that is for them.
We have an awesome MCH nurse. You dont have to stick to the one in your area, if someone knows of another one that is better, you are able to book in at another centre. Ask around and see if anyone can recommend a good nurse.
Good Luck

InactiveMight do that- they don’t really tell you that you can “shop around”. Others in my mother’s group think she is OK- so maybe it is just me
I can be pretty high maintainance
Do you think the golden syrup would also have a laxative effect? Would you have to add it to the water/formula when it was quite hot so that it would dissolve?
I read on the net the idea of nesquik. So looked up nesquik ingredients and they say no milk, but made on machines that process milk. Probably would be OK for her because she doesn’t seem to be so much allergic as intolerant. But might use it as a last resort.

InactiveSorry, “shop around” sounded a bit sarcastic

Inactivemy ped said alochol free vanilla sryup.. . we tried adding that and pear juice when he was younger to get him on alimentum and it didnt really work too well..he just started to get used to it and forget the old taste i guess. but you are right they are older now and its harder.. after 2 bottles of soy a couple days ago he is drinking less of the alimentum as well! i guess what do you expect when you introduce it, and they realize they are drinking sour milk?
… maybe if the flavorings dont work you might have to add a bit of the old formula?December 7, 2006 at 9:49 am #19763Anonymous
InactiveWe add the banana baby food to Bryce’s milk. We do it more for weight than taste, but it works for that too. We just add 1/2 teaspoon per ounce.
