InactiveHi, I’m Stacey and my son, Collin, is almost 4 months old.
Collin was diagnosed with reflux at 6 weeks old. Since then we’ve been through 4 forumulas (he is now on Neocate) and 3 meds (he is now on 2.0mL of Prilosec 2xday)He has had an upper gi, abdominal ultrasound and the ph probe. Anatomically everything is fine… just a bad case of reflux. Unfortunately we see little change since the GI upped his prilosec dosage.Collin is not a big spitter-upper. His worst time is about 2-3 hours after he eats… he wakes up crying in pain. The tech that did his ph probe told us that is the worst reflux time… he is refluxing straight stomach acid. His sleep is always interrupted with these painful “episodes” (as we call them)We go back to the GI tomorrow and my husband and I are at our breaking point. We feel we have done so many things for him and nothing has made a lasting improvement.Does anyone know about the dosages appropriate for a 4 month, 13lb baby? Has anyone had success stories with Nexium? We just want our little guy to start feeling better.THANKS!October 31, 2007 at 3:04 pm #44823Anonymous
InactiveHello and welcome,
I’ve had two refluxers so I sure know how hard it is. Sounds like his Prilosec dose is not high enough, or even worse, it’s possible that the medication is not being made properly. It’s not uncommon for compounded PPI meds like Prilosec to be prepared incorrectly by the pharmacist. Here’s link which explains it.
I’d suggest asking for a different med (like Preavacid, but not compounded Prevacid, or Zegerid). Also, many docs underdose our babies because they are not aware of some current research that shows babies need higher PPI doses than adults due to their fast metabolism. You can read about this at http://www.marci-kids.comGood luck and glad you found us.October 31, 2007 at 4:05 pm #44824Anonymous
InactiveThanks for the welcome… I’m so glad I found this site.
Collin was on prevacid before… 15mg tablet, split in half, 1 half am and 1 half pm… after reading so much good info on this site, sounds like it wasn’t nearly enough.I am printing all this info out and going in “armed” tomorrow!October 31, 2007 at 9:32 pm #44837Anonymous
Inactivemy dd did better on nexium than prevacid or zegerid!!!!
she was a major silent refluxer until 10 months, she takes nexium, 20 mg in am and 20 in pm and is eating a lot better!!!I needed over 30 mg of prevacid to get her without pain, close to 36 mg and nexium i heard lasts longer in a baby’s system.November 1, 2007 at 7:56 am #44843Anonymous
InactiveAdismom,
I saw in one of your other postings that you are from PA…. so are we. Where are you located?
Where was the Dr. in NJ you used? (I am originally from there)
Thanks for your nexium info… we go to the dr today so we’ll see what he comes up with.
THANKS!

InactiveHello!
My littler gerdling is on Nexium and we have had good luck with it. Ashlynn has been on Neiuxm since she was about 2 months-Zantac(got up to 2ml -3x’s a day), Prevacid 30mg (1/2 in am and 1/2 pm). We did not see any success until the Nexium, she also takes Erthromycin 2ml 3x’s a day. She starting to sleep better and having a little less reflux issues, but she does have a bad day or two.So answer to your question Nexium did work for us. The med is a little tricky to give. We have the oral suspenion that comes in a packet. I have to divide the med inhalf(on wax paper), she gets one half in the am and the other in the pm. I mix it with 10ml H20 , wait just a little and draw the med up in a syringe that Walmart gave us. It took a liite awhile to get a system down to make sure all the little beads come out.But the bigger kicker is you have to wait 30min before feeding and Ash gets a little upset at times. So i have learned to turn the radio on and we dance waiting for 30 min to go by,StaceyAshlynn 6-3-07 reflux since birthDamika 11-3-05 No refluxstcwatt2007-11-01 11:43:39
