InactiveWell Ryder is now 5.5 months and he was sleeping pretty good for awhile till he had reflux pretty bad. For the past couple of nights he has been getting up every 2- to 1.5 hours! UGHHHH!!!
He isn’t super unhappy so I don’t think it’s his reflux but then again maybe it is??? I am not really sure but he wakes up and nurses and then goes to sleep He doesn’t even nurse that much during the day. When he was refluxingbad he would screamduring feeding but now jhe just wants to nurse but quite a bit. Maybe growth spurt? Or is it reflux? We are going to have the endo on the 25th—still dreading that but the GI won’t change his meds till we know what’s really going on.
Last night he went to bed at 8ish and woke up 12:30 then again at 2:30 then again 4ish. At 4 DH went in and gave him maalox and he went back to sleep for 20 mins and then woke up again and I nursed him and he slept from 4:30 to 8!
I was also wondering if maybe we are letting him nap to close to bedtime and he is getting a little screwed up there….. I really just don’t know!
All I can say is Thank God that he isn’t screaming like he was before.
Does it sound like reverse cycling? And if so what do I do?
Any and all advice is welcomed with OPEN ears!!!:)

InactiveI know a little about sleep and I know it has to do with that big square thing you have in your bedroom. Its been so long I forgot the rest sorry. I really do feel for you but I don’t have the answer. When you find out please share. Its almost 19 months for me and mine still doesn’t sleep very well at night.

InactiveI am sorry…. it took Matthew 12months to sleep OK. He is not a great sleeper by any means, but now, 4 out of 7 nights he sleeps 9hours a night!!!
I don’t know what worked for us – a combination of CIO (ie letting him cry), the pacifier (we took it away because he would not be able to find it), we gave it back to him, we switched prevacid to morning.
HOWEVER< you say it has only been a couple of nights? I would give him some time to settle… maybe he is switching schedules, growing, teething, something is bothering him like reflux? What does he do when he wakes up – for me i could clearly distinguish the reflux cry – unconsolable, heard it coming, stretching in bed, arching…
If you really think that it is a napping vs night issue – i really tried to follow the Weissbluth book with a schedule of what regular kids should be doing and it helped because Matthew would never be on a schedule on his own. IF he is waking and does not know how to go back to sleep, try CIO for a couple of nights…

InactiveSince he slept so well after the Maalox, it sounds like he may be in pain from his reflux. Maybe try some Maalox before each feeding and seel if that helps until he has his endo and hopefully some answers and better meds.
BTW…most of us use Mylanta Cherry Supreme because it does not have aluminum. Did your doctor recommend Maalox?
Good luck. I know how hard it is. My first refluxer was never properly medicated and didn’t sleep for 9 long months. It was awful to say the least.

InactiveMy Dr said maalox but why would aluminum bother him? Does it upset reflux more?
I am thinking that it maybe a growth spurt. I just hope we get answers and finally the right meds.
How does your DC act at night when refluxing? He use to cry but now he is just waking frequently. Does it sound like reflux or just something else?

InactiveIt’s so hard to tell.
Myles was never a bad sleeper, just an early riser, but when something is bothering him (like teething or reflux) he cries, whines, or screams in bed. My daugher just woke frequently and moaned and groaned, or cried in a half asleep kind of way. She rarely screamed. As for the aluminum in Maalox, supposedly if too much is used it can be bad for the baby, but most say you’d have to used an awful lot of it, so I wouldn’t be too worried. I use the Mylanta Cherry Supreme to be on the safe side.
