Inactivehi again
when i last posted i was headed to the ped GI. she & nutritionist urged me to try elecare for a week to see if ben’s sleep improved. prior to that i was 100% breastfeeding and had eliminated dairy, soy, citrus, nuts and a few other things but hadn’t tried TED. I figured – sure – this is a short cut to determine if food sensitivites are causing his pain and the typical green/ muscousy diapers. So over a week later – he still sleeps terribly (waking every 2 hours) and can’t really nap.
I know he is teething too…has his fist in his mouth. After the week on Elecare i can say i miss BFing…hate mixing bottles and pumping and have started a premature TED to get him back on the boob soon. we simply can’t afford the Elecare (insurance said NO) and i don’t see much improvement BUT – his green mucousy stools are gone. Otherwise it is the same program.i have scoured these boards tonight even though i need to be sleeping!!! seems to me like both TED and Elecare will take much longer than the week or 2 the Dr. said to work… Elecare for months? TED for weeks or more? i am willing to do TED but after day 2 i am starving and need some veggies in my life…today the Ped GI called to check in. she suggested if there was NO change on Elecare after about 9 days that food sensitivites are not Ben’s problem and the TED is unnecessary. she thinks we should do an endoscopy to see if there are other issues…???????oh boy. another whole thing to worry about. the procedure sounds very invasive and could be troubling. or might it take us right ot the root of the problem? she said you can see allergies in the procedure…and other issues that might exist….do I try to stick it out on Elecare for longer or try TED and hope I see some improvement? she said TED cannot be more elemental than the Elecare…but did we try it long enough?also heading to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital Sleep Clinic after we document how LITTLE sleep we all get after a full week….what can we learn there????we are co sleeping and cuddling and i make about 4 oz. and give Ben about an ounce at each waking to settle him b/c as with the breast, it seems to be all that will settle him down. he does seem to wake in pain.advice please! TED until further notice. i just can’t give up the breastfeeding yet but have a ticking clock as i have to go back to work in a month and need to sort out daycare, etc. it’s all “starting” to stress this tired momma out!!!!!
thanks!kristinOctober 21, 2008 at 11:19 pm #57934Anonymous
Inactiveendoscopy and sleep study sound like exactly what you guys need. The sleep study will determine if he is having regular sleep patterns, and if not, why….
The endoscopy is a VERY quick procedure that there is virtually no recovery for and they will test and check for cells that will indicate allergy, etc, so that will give you a clear picture if your issues are more allergy or reflux. Also, I would request they do a ph probe during the sleep study so that you can see how often he is refluxing and for how long. All good information to be gathering, and I know it feels like a lot, but it will give you good answers and get you on a course of your LO feeling better and all of you sleeping better!Hang in there!!!!Ann Marie -
