InactiveSince we have pretty much exhausted all efforts trying to get some relief for Jacob, the pediatrician has recommended trying Reglan. She said that her son was on it and had no trouble with it at all. I hear such conflicting things about this med, but we are practically out of possible solutions. Should we try it????

InactiveDoes he throw up or spit up alot? My understanding of the purpose of this drug is that it will help the stomach empty faster which can help decrease the spitting and throwing up. Some have said that emptying the stomach faster can help reflux pain because stomach contents will empty more quickly and thus the baby will reflux less.
Maybe you can ask about some of the other motility drugs instead….like Erythromyocin or Motilium. I don’t know a lot about them, but I haven’t heard that they have the same reputation for scary side effects like Reglan dose.
What problems is he having? Is he in a lot of pain? Not eating?
Hopefully some of the other moms will have better advice or experience to share with you.

Inactivei thought they were for babies that have DGE

Inactiveyes, they are for babies with DGE. though sometimes they are used for reflux babies that spit up excessively.
johanna, is your main concern the excessive throw up? because reglan and the others dont do anything for pain or healing the esophogus.December 18, 2006 at 7:16 pm #20710Anonymous
Inactivehas your son had any testing done? have you been to see a ped gi?

InactiveOur GI (and all of us) are basically grasping at straws at this point….he is a silent refluxer, but sometimes (usually 2-3 hours after eating) he will projectile vomit what seems to be an entire bottle. And he is still in lots of pain, refuses to sit at all, and arches his back like crazy. And, of course, he does not sleep well – to say the least! It is making me nuts.
Nothing we have tried has worked…and we are running out of options…..so now they are suggesting Reglan and I am not sure how I feel about it.

Inactivejust wondering how long you gave neocate a chance to work?
have you read this article? it states that it can take neocate a few months to repair the damage :

Inactivehey natalia!
i had him on the neocate and then the elecare – it was (combined) a a total of about 4 or 5 weeks. the reason we took him off of it through, was because it caused him to develop a rash all over his body. he was allergic to something in it apparently… i mean, can you even believe all of this???? it’s madness!
