InactiveWe really don’t know what to do! Ariella can’t really go with only one nap a day yet but two are too much for her b/c she’s not sleepy at 9 pm anymore. We used to put her down for the night between 8:30-9pm and now she can go until 10 and even later at times if she had her second nap. She’s up at 7 am (on the dot!!) and is already cranky by 10 am. First nap is between 10-11 am. Second nap is around 3-4 pm. She’s up from her second nap (the latest I let her sleep) is 6 pm. I can’t really eliminate or combine the two naps yet. What do I do??

InactiveI think i would leave it how it is.. wait until she isnt cranky @ 10:00 anymore. Then she will be telling you she is ready for one nap.
BUT i had to MAKE shane take one nap a day early because of where i work.. and i need him on the same schedule as the girl i watch. So, I make him stay up until 1:00! and its NOT FUN! i distract and distract him! So then he naps till 2:30ish and is down for the night @ 7:30.October 3, 2007 at 6:33 pm #43713Anonymous
Inactivethis is a really common thing that kids go through—and it can be difficult for awhile. i wish that after 9 kids i had the magic answer—but i don’t. good luck!!!

InactiveI HATED this phase with Kaden. For us, it only lasted a couple months, maybe less (I know that sounds like an eternity) and then he truly was ready for 1 nap around 13-ish or so months of age.

InactiveWe would wake them up after about 1/2 hour of the second nap. It was enough to refresh, but not enough to keep them up at night. Dylan was NEVER a big napper, but Carter was a little better. He would be cranky when we wake him up, but then we would ease him awake. Turn on a baby einstein, etc…. crackers on the couch, etc.. Worth a shot, but my monther always said “don’t wake a sleeping baby”. so who knows??

InactiveOh, Ann Marie…I can only imagine what Ariella will put me through if I woke her up. She’s not a big napper but she HATES, HATES, HATES being woken up. She’ll be cranky and will want to hang on me until I put her down for the night. It’s not pleasant. Plus, my in laws watch her during the day and they would never wake her up. They’ll let her sleep until 6 pm (which I keep telling them not to do).

InactiveDo you think that she can take one long 3 hour nap sometime inbetween the two… maybe at 11 oclock if she can’t wait until noon… might mess up lunch though now that I think about it. Sarah went through that phase, but sometime after a year we just started giving her one nap at noon. If she needed a nap in the afternoon or morning, we just let her snooze on the go for a catnap, but we also put her down to bed early- 7pm. I personally like early bedtimes when possible, but I know it’s hard to do, especially if you’re working. With Hailey, she doesn’t go down to bed until around 8:45.

InactiveLori, I don’t think she’ll take 3 hour naps just yet. I’ll just have her lead the way. I hope we’ll get somewhere with her change of schedule. I noticed that for a couple of days, she’s been napping for 1 or so twice a day. I hope we’ll be able to combine those two naps into one 2 hour nap soon.
