InactiveIf you can remember for those of you whose babies are older now.
Cooper has recently started solids and really doesn’t want too much to do with the bottle anymore. Of the past few weeks it has gotten less and less and the lowest was 12 ounces in a day. It’s gotten better, but still on the low side. The Dr recommended giving him three meals a day, two of them with cereal ( mixed with formula ). But trying to get that much food plus bottles in him just seems like so much to do in not a lot of time. What was your typical day like at around 6-7 months? Why does this seem like rocket science all of a sudden?TinaAugust 16, 2007 at 6:33 am #41178Anonymous
InactiveWe are 6 months today and I can tell you what my Cooper is doing. We are taking 6 bottles total (1 in the middle of the night of 6oz). Then he takes 5 bottles during the day 4 are 7oz and this bedtime bottle is 8oz. He is only taking solids 2x/day we are still trialing to make sure no allergies. We will be done by the end of the month and then I will introduce oatmeal cereal as we have not had any cereal yet and I will also increase his veggies and fruits. He is taking maybe 1 small jar total a day at this point. I am patiently waiting for his formula intake to drop but no drop so far. I have a little piggy on my hands. I don’t know if this helps you or not, but at least you can compare.

InactiveWow! Well, I know they are all different. He just doesn’t seem interested in the bottle anymore. I guess I am just suprised by how big of a drop in formula it was. I feel like I could feed him as much as his Dr recommended if there were more hours in the day or if he didn’t sleep so long at night. Should I wake him in the night to give an extra bottle??

InactiveI wouldn’t wake him to feed him. Your doc is giving you general recommendations on how much a baby should eat, but they really are all different. At 6 months of age Myles was thriving on a total of 15-16 ounces of breast milk or formula a day, plus about 1/2 cup of baby oatmeal cereal, and mabye two jars of baby food. That’s it! And his growth continued to be normal. Some babies just don’t need as much as others.
From what I can remember with my girls at that age I used to feed them their solids after their bottle. So they’d wake up and have a morning bottle of about 5 ounces. Then about an hour later I’d feed them some baby cereal and fruit. Not much. Probaby 1/4 cup of cereal and 1/2 of a stage one jar of food. They’d have another bottle (5 ounces) around 11 am and then a jar of veggies 1/2 hour to an hour later. Another bottle around 3 pm (5 ounces) and baby cereal with veggies for supper (around 5 pm). They’d have one last bottle before bed around 7:30 and usually took about 6-7 ounces for that one. So they averaged 22 ounces of breast milk/formula, 1/2 cup of cereal, and 2-3 jars of baby food for the entire day.I used to babysit a little boy who at six months of age would suck down an entire 8 ounce bottle of formula and then follow it up with an adult sized bowl of oatmeal and an entire stage 2 jar of baby food.
He ate like a horse and he was never bigger than the 25th percentile for weight. His father was super skinny and ate like a horse too. He was the first baby I ever babysat so when I moved on to other families I thought their kids ate like birds!

InactiveOkay, that makes sense. I guess I just freaked out. I promise I’m not a neurotic mommy. I just feel like all I’m doing all day is stuffing food in his mouth as opposed to the only the bottle every few hours.
One more question, when did they sleep during all that?? I feel like I just get done feeding him and it’s time for him to go down, but by the time he wakes up he coudn’t possibly be hungry. He doesn’t nap so well…Tinatklavender2007-08-16 16:04:31
